If you are looking for winter fun, Shanty Creek Resorts has a lot to offer! This Northern Michigan resort has everything you need for a great snowcation.
Traverse City, Michigan is a very popular destination in the summer for its beautiful water, weather, and a love of all things cherry themed or flavored, as the Cherry Capital of the World…..but you don’t have to wait until summer to experience adventure in Northern Michigan! I discovered why Crystal Mountain is a such a popular “snowcation” destination for winter fun too.
I have tried the Olympics sport of curling several times during a “Learn to Curl” class.
Each time I LOVED it! Why, you ask?
Looking for a gift that keeps on giving?
Why don’t you give someone the gift of adventure instead?
Here are a few reasons why you should consider giving an experience gift instead of a physical one.
During our stay at Fernwood Resort, we tried enjoyed several outdoor winter adventures. The first adventure we tried was a dual race on the 1,000 ft long Zip Racer Zipline. This was my friend’s first time ziplining and my first zipline in the snow. The hike up to the platform was very scenic and my friend really enjoyed her 1st zipline experience.
This winter has been unseasonably warm so attempting to try snowshoeing has been hit and miss all season. I’ve been able to try snowshoeing a few times this winter when we have gotten snow.
Our family’s first time trying was at local Winterfest event. We tried the types of snowshoes resembled wooden tennis rackets like you see pictures of Eskimos using.
I love when plans work out for a spontaneous adventure. My friend was already coming to town, so I just offered her the “choose your own adventure” option for her visit. Try the luge, cross country skiing or attend an ice sculpture festival. I was sooo excited that she wanted to try the luge too. The weekend we went was the first time the track had been open all winter due to lack of snow. This was a Christmas gift I’ve been impatiently waiting to use.
I had tried the wheeled luge track with my kids this past summer and I knew I wanted to come back to try the winter one.
A toboggan chute has been on my bucket list for a few years and I was really excited to finally cross it off.
I LOVE traveling but there always seems to be a part of my brain that shuts down when I’m trying to pack ALL of my clothing options into a suitcase. I’m a habitual overpacker because I tend to want to be prepared for any fashion emergency. My trip to the Pocono Mountains presented a packing challenge. I needed to fit ALL of my clothing options in one carry on suitcase. My challenge was that I didn’t want to pay the extra baggage fee for a 4 day trip. I’ve always previously driven to winter destinations so that I could overpack without limits but this trip was not an enjoyable driving distance for my time constraints.
During a recent visit to the Sandusky area, we found out about freighters that were frozen in Lake Erie near the bay in Huron, Ohio.
We immediately knew that we wanted to capture some shots of the freighters before and during sunrise. The first challenge was finding a close location to view them from.
Our first location involved a large fence and huge, giant, mounds of snow.
But….that didn’t stop us from taking pictures.
Our second location got even better.
Our final vantage point gave even better views along with the sunrise in site.
The views were worth the early wake up.
