Thanks to the BELONG tour for sponsoring this post.
I attended the first ever BELONG Tour in Columbus, Ohio. Several of the speakers and artists on the tour lineup have made such an impact on me personally and I was really excited to hear from them in person.
So what is the BELONG Tour?
The tour will be headlined by Patsy dimensions, Jen Hatmaker, Shauna Niequist, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Nichole Nordeman – a diverse group of highly sought after authors, speakers, and online personalities. Together, these women have authored nearly 30 books and have inspired millions of women through speaking engagements, blogs, television shows, musical artistry, and more.
The BELONG Tour is a two-day experience challenging women to pursue their best lives. It is a call for women of all walks of life and faith to connect more deeply with their own dreams and purpose—and within their relationships and communities. The speakers will share insights from their personal life stories. Through humor and vulnerability, they will create an environment that invites authentic connection and sharing, inviting women to dig deeply and live their lives in a big way.
This event isn’t like any other event you’ve ever experienced. It’s called BELONG, because you DO. Everyone is invited. Nobody is excluded. No matter your age or stage,–if you’ve got it all together or are piecing together a string of messes–BELONG is YOUR place, where you’ll find your people.
So what did I get out of it?
Here are a few of my thoughts.
I think trying to figure out where you belong is something that every woman has struggled with in every season of their life because relationships can change and so can we along the way. Whether you are a teenager, a college student, new grad, new career woman, new mom, working mom, empty nester, single, married, divorced…..all of us yearn to have people and a place where we feel like we can be our authentic self. The kind of place and people that know you good and bad, and still love ALL of you. Each of us desire to have people in our lives who will support us, dream with us, listen to us, challenge us, and also call us out if we are getting off track or having a pity party that is lasting too long.
I feel like each speaker and artist spoke to that in some form. I enjoyed to blend of humor mixed with authenticity. The women who shared are very diverse in many ways and yet each one of them were great because they were so different and each brought something different to the experience.
I noticed that Nicole Nordeman’s voice is even more beautiful live. I wasn’t sure that could even be possible. I enjoyed her beautiful songs and her vulnerability. I was a little relieved that she didn’t sing the song “Legacy” during the tour. I used to play that song on repeat when I would go for a drive by myself when my mom was dying from breast cancer. That was also a song that was also played at her funeral with a photo slide show. I’m not much of a public cryer but she did still manage to get some water trickeling out of my right eye. If that song would have been played I definitely would have probably had two eyes trickeling with water. You can just tell that she has so much depth to her in so many dimmensions. Her talk about “Opening the Garage” really spoke to me because there are some areas in my life that I haven’t wanted to deal with and she really challenged us …in a graceful way to bring those things to light.
Your new favorite couple will definitely be Johnny Swim. I had never heard of their band before but they are definitely going to help fill the musical void I’ve felt from the Civil Wars breaking up. Their concert was one of my highlights during the tour. They create musical magic together with their voices and a guitar. I immediately bought their CD after their concert.
I had never heard of Patsy Clairmont before but I think that I want to become her grandkid. She is really funny and animated. I think that she her wisdom and humor really added to the conference. Jen Hatmaker and Shauna Niequist are two authors that I really enjoy because they are so relatable. I wrote this post after reading Shauna’s book “Bittersweet” when I was going through a real low point. Their messages had the same tone and felt like they were talking to you in a living room instead of a stadium.
My friend Stephanie from A Little Moore joined me on this adventure. She and I have met for over a year to help keep each other accountable in blogging goals and also living with purpose. After the event, we had several deep and vulnerable talks about the parts that stood out to us from the speakers who shared. What I love is that everyone who attends the BELONG tour will find something that really speaks to them from someone who shares.
You will be inspired to ROCK your purpose. If you have never thought about your purpose before, you will be challenged to discover what your thing is and find your people who will share in the journey with you in some form.
The heart of this tour is to encourage and uplift and I think they did a great job of doing that!
Soooooo now all you need to do is find an event near you so that you can experience it too!
