Butterflies of the Philippines at Krohn Conservatory

Butterflies of the Philippines at Krohn Conservatory

I look forward to the Butterfly Show at the Krohn Conservatory each year.  The butterflies are gorgeous and it’s so exciting when you discover one has picked you to land on. The key is the have your camera ready because those moments happen FAST! I’m looking forward to discovering what this year’s theme as “Butterflies of the Philippines” will bring.

Butterfly 2

Here is a little more about this year’s show.

This year’s exhibit features the colorful and exotic Butterflies of the Philippines, and they will preside over a majestic tribute to the marvelous Filipino culture. The showroom will be filled with butterflies soaring among bold displays that will immerse visitors in a sumptuous tropical environment. A large, dramatic mural of an erupting volcano and a wildly cascading waterfall will provide a striking backdrop for many tropical plants such as ornate orchids, brilliant bromeliads, delicate anthuriums and dramatic dracaenas.

Many exciting events have been planned throughout the 12-week Butterfly show to allow visitors to experience the free-soaring butterflies and to discover even more about the vibrant, engaging and gracious Filipino culture.

“Magic and Mistletoe” Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show

Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show 2014

The Krohn Conservatory is one of my favorite places to visit in Cincinnati around the holidays. This year’s show has a lot of great additions that visitors will enjoy.

My first observation was that there is more space. This year’s display is set up beautifully.

The display is also made of natural materials and the results are absolutely incredible!    Make sure that you get up close to really appreciate all of the small details.

There is a lot to see in various sections of the conservatory. The Botaniluminaria and Santa’s Village in the Fern Room is a great addition that offers additional displays and trains in an area that tends to be less crowded.

There is also a great vintage display with pieces from the Schmalz Family holiday collection that includes animatronics from former department stores.

Avant Garden Spring Show at the Krohn Conservatory

Krohn Conservatory Avant Garden Spring Show Cincinnati Ohio

This winter weather has me really looking forward to spring. I picked a snowy day to daydream of warmer temps at the Krohn Avant Garden Spring Show.

Experience a fresh and creative spring landscape at Krohn Conservatory’s 2014 Spring Show, the ‘Avant-Garden.’  The show will highlight a unique variety of exotic spring bulbs, fragrant shrubs, and bright annuals that are not commonly used in the typical spring garden.  Red crown imperials, twisted grasses, water hyacinths, brilliant blue delphiniums, and black tulips are just some of the plants to look for among the exciting palette of blossoming plants.

Recycled materials are used in an ‘avant-garde’ style to enhance the imaginative landscape. Basket frames and tomato cages are transformed into moss-covered chandeliers, striking flower sculptures are created from layered glassware, and paint cans are repurposed to even hang plants upside down.  Enjoy an early spring at the Krohn Conservatory and be inspired by the ‘Avant-Garden!’

I absolutely loved the creative repurposing of plates and glasses!
