10 Fun Things for Non Riders to Do at Kings Island

July 12, 2018 By Nedra McDaniel 4 Comments

You don’t have to be a fan of thrill rides to enjoy a visit to Kings Island Amusement Park. There are still plenty of entertainment options for non-riders of all ages.

1. Relax at Soak City

Soak City offers adventures for all thrill levels. If you enjoy a more laid-back experience, lounge by one of the wave pools, relax in the lazy river, and join in a game of sand volleyball. Admission to Soak City is included in your general admission to King Island which gives you two parks for the price of one.

2. Ride the Train

Save a few steps to Soak City by taking a ride on the KI & Miami Valley Steam Engine Train… or just enjoy some time off your feet and learn more about the park during a relaxing ride.  The train has two stations (Soak City) and Losantiville located near the exit of Mystic Timbers in the Rivertown Section of the park and the ride lasts about 10-15 minutes if you make a full loop depending on stops and the number of trains on the track that day.

3. Enjoy a View From Above

Get a birds-eye view of the park from the top of the Eiffel Tower that is a one-third scale replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris You can take an elevator up to the top of the observation platform of the Eiffel Tower for a 360-degree view of the park that is beautiful both day and night.

4. Play a Game

One of our favorite areas to spectate is at the 3 Point Challenge area located next to the Backlot Stunt Coaster. Kings Island also has lots of carnival-style games in the Coney Mall section of the park along with an arcade, at Planet Snoopy, and also in the Rivertown section of the park.

5. Visit the Petting Zoo

Animal lovers will be greeted by lots of furry friends at Snoopy’s Barnyard Friends petting farm. Guests can interact with miniature horses, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, sheep, alpacas, and my favorite to watch, the goats.

6. Watch a Show

Kings Island offers several performances throughout the park. One of our favorites for the past several years has been the Cirque show at Kings Island Theater. The stunts and acrobatics by the performers typically make my heart skip a beat and everyone leaves the theater in amazement afterward. If you love to watch a performance you can be entertained while you dine in the Festhaus or catch a live show at the Bandstand. Animal lovers will want to check out “Jump! The Ultimate Dog Show Challenge” that features several rescue dogs who can do amazing tricks in a show that’s non stop fun. (This is one of my husband’s favorites)

7. Walk the Tower Garden

Located steps from the base of the Eiffel Tower, the Tower Garden is a nice spot to relax and admire some of the beautiful landscaping at the park. There are plenty of benches in this area and it tends to be one of the less populated areas of the park.

8. Find the Perfect Souvenir

There are keepsakes for all styles and ages if you want something to bring home to remember your visit. If you are feeling extra adventurous check out the wild flavors of cotton candy like chili pepper, cake batter, and ranch inside The Sweet Spot shop on International Street.

9. Enjoy a Sweet Treat

Share a funnel cake sundae with a few of your closest friends or visit Planet Snoopy for a famous blue ice cream cone. If you need an extra boost of caffeine, opt for a sweet specialty drink at the Starbucks on site.

10. Fireworks Show

No visit to Kings Island Amusement Park is complete without a Fireworks Show that is synchronized to music. It’s the perfect way to end a magical day at the park!

As my kids have gotten older, they haven’t really been ready to ride the huge rides yet so this is a great list! With us living so close, we love to just go for a show and some food on days we don’t want to do rides!
