3 Outdoor Adventures I Want to Try in Colorado Springs

3 Outdoor Adventures I want to try in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Region offers so much for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. From unique natural wonders like the Garden of the Gods Park and Pikes Peak creating scenic landscapes that will leave an impression on you for years to come. I got a small glimpse of the area 20+ years ago and there are so many reasons to want to go back!

Colorado Springs Colorado

Before my senior year in high school, I went on a 7500-mile road trip with my parents and my grandpa. We drove from the Cincinnati metro to Out West, the Pacific Coast, and then hit some of the Southern States on the way back.

That road trip instilled in me a wanderlust to want to travel more and introduced me to so many places that I wanted to return to. We traveled pre-internet and digital cameras which meant that our photos and adventure research were definitely limited.  A lot has changed in 20+ years and Colorado Springs is one of the destinations that I would love to return to. As a teenager, I don’t think that I took in my surroundings with the same appreciation that I do now as an adult.

One of the best parts about going out west for our road trip was the incredible scenery. When we visited the Colorado Springs area 20+ years ago we were pretty limited in what we could do outdoor adventure-wise due to traveling with my grandpa, who was in his high 80’s at the time.

I’ve done my research and the following are the three outdoor adventures around Colorado Springs that I want to cross off my Colorado Bucket list the next time around!

White Water Rafting

The perfect adventure for both families and thrill seekers, the Arkansas River is the most popular river to go white water rafting in the US. Family options range from a scenic float to more challenging rapids that can be extended to multi-day trip with a guide. Those looking for a challenge will want to check out the famous Royal Gorge.

Manitou Incline Hiking Trail

Looking for a hike that earns you bragging rights and gives you an incredible workout??? If you are an advanced hiker or just physically active in general, then this trail is for you!….. but be warned that it’s not for the faint of heart! In less than 1 mile, the Manitou Incline gains nearly 2,000 feet in elevation with average grades from 45% to as steep at 68% that can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1+ hours! The Manitou Incline was formerly the path of a cable car and is now the legendary path for anyone who appreciates a challenging workout.

Scenic Segway Tour

I’ve taken several Segway tours throughout the years but those mountain views pictured above are hard to beat! You can enjoy speeds as fast or a slow as you want while learning about the history of the area and taking in the scenery on paved roads at Garden of the Gods Park.
