How to Make the Most of Your Visit to the Sports Legends Experience

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis just got even better with its newest addition the Sports Legends Experience!

I’m sharing tips on how to make the most out of your first-time visit.

Sports Legends Experience

What is Sports Legends Experience?

It’s a 7.5-acre expansion to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis where families can enjoy and engage in 12 outdoor sports experiences and 3 indoor experiences.

Here is an overview of the different sections.

Football Sports Legends

Football

Work on your passes, punts, and touchdowns skills on a mini football field with goal posts of different heights.

Tips Before You Visit the Sports Legends Experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Plan Ahead

To make the most out of your visit, it’s really important to plan ahead. This will help you save the most money and make the best use of your time during your visit. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the World’s Largest Children’s Museum which means that you will want to take in all that it has to offer

Two Attractions for One Price

The cost of the Sports Legends Experience is covered in your admission price to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis which means that your kids could literally play at the museum all day long.

Get the Best Pricing

For the best price for your admission, you will want to use Plan Ahead Pricing at least 1 day in advance. Find discount rates with the lowest prices offered farther in advance during the week.

Also, check the website for Evening Only Rates and First Thursdays each month. (I wouldn’t recommend First Thursday for your first visit because you will want to have more time to explore without large crowds in a shorter window of time.)

Wear Gym Shoes

The Sports Legends Experience requires close-toed shoes for several of the activities. It’s also like playing in a giant sports themed playground which means that gym shoes will give you the most mobility and comfort during your visit.

Bring a Plastic Water Bottle

If you plan on enjoying the Sports Legends Experience for any length of time you will definitely get thirty fast!

Only plastic water bottles are allowed in that area. I would also recommend labeling nicer ones because they can be forgotten very easily. There are water bottle filling stations available near the water fountains.

Have a Plan for Your Meals

There are food concessions within the museum and the museum does allow outside food in the food court area only. Food is not allowed inside the other parts of the museum.

There are lockers available for rent for a small fee and the large locker can fit a cooler inside. There are outdoor concessions also available at the Sports Legends Experience.

Keep Your Ticket

If you want a break in between museum sections, another option is to go offsite for a bit and then come back.

You must have your ticket to be admitted again. Depending on the ages of your kids, you might also want to determine if it’s worth the hassle of leaving and then coming back vs. just purchasing something onsite.

Park for FREE

I really appreciate that the Children’s Museum doesn’t charge for parking. There is a garage located across the street from the museum that has a walkway at street level and a skywalk for upper levels.

The Sports Legends Experience Supplies the Equipment

The museum supplies all of the equipment that you would need to play during your visit.

You can bring your own helmet if you want but the museum has helmets provided for the kids as well. (The museum has won awards for cleanliness and takes that very seriously)

Hours

The Sports Legends Experience will be open later than the indoor musuem at select times throughout the year. Make sure that you check the website for operating hours during your visit.
