I previewed the Mummies Exhibit with my friend Jamie. She loves history and we both were interested in learning more about this new rare exhibit. We were given special permission to take pictures for promotional purposes.
It’s important to remember that you are observing real people in this exhibit. It also makes you curious about their lives.
Mummies of the World portrays a once-in-a-lifetime collection of real mummies and artifacts from across the globe. This compelling collection, presented with reverence and dignity, includes ancient mummies dating back as far as 4,500 years. A fascinating mix of old and new, this captivating collection bridges the gap between past and present with contributions from 10 world-renowned Institutions and two private collectors.
Embark on a journey into the extraordinary world of mummies and mummification. Through modern science, engaging interactive and multi-media exhibits featuring 3-D animation, explore how mummies are created, where they come from and who they were. Using state-of-the-art scientific methodology, discover how modern science enables researchers to study mummies through innovative and non-invasive ways, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilizations.
This exhibition includes a collection of 45 human and animal mummies, plus related artifacts from South
America, Europe, and ancient Egypt. Artifacts include Egyptian and South American burial objects such as
amulets, statuettes and tools used for mummification.
This exhibit really does a great job of telling you about the mummies. It really helps you to connect to them on a human level through the history of their stories.
There is a lot to read about to get the full picture. I recommend allowing enough time to read the descriptions for each piece in the exhibit.
The science behind the exhibit is also fascinating. It’s amazing to see how well the artifacts and the mummies have been preserved.
The exhibit leaves you with these final questions.
This exhibit is for anyone who is interested in science and history. As a parent you will need to decide if this is an exhibit that your kids can handle. My kids were not ready for it yet but a child interested in science and medicine would probably really enjoy this exhibit.

The whole ancient Egypt and mummies thing always fascinates me, and this looks like a great exhibition. It seems that the subject is fascinating to a lot of folks as well as I remember going down to the Toledo Museum of Art for a special lecture by Dr. Bob Brier that drew an SRO crowd (500+) to the museum on a Friday night! https://www.midwestguest.com/2009/10/talk-like-an-egyptian-with-dr-bob-brier-at-ohios-toledo-museum-of-art.html Loved your story and photos here.
