Last year my family attended Summerfair for the 1st time. I enjoyed checking out all of the creativity on display and my boys enjoyed the activities at the kids stations.
Summerfair is coming up really soon and you can find out why you should check it out this year.
In just two weeks, Summerfair will return for its 47th year on Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1. The fair, located at Cincinnati’s historic Coney Island, will feature more than 300 fine artists and craftspeople from around the country, a variety of gourmet food vendors, the Youth Arts Rocks! area, the 4th annual Little Black Dress Event and for the first time, Summerfair After Hours.
What started as a small art fair’s salute to the opening of Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park has grown into one of the oldest and most prestigious continuous art fairs, annually drawing tens of thousands of art enthusiasts to see and purchase works of art from across the United States and Canada. This year, more than 900 acclaimed artists applied to exhibit everything from photography, painting, woodworking and ceramics to fibers, leather, jewelry and 2D/3D mixed-media art.
New this year is Summerfair After Hours, a two-hour evening show at no cost with Saturday’s admission featuring Jen Chapin, American singer-songwriter whose work has been called “brilliant… soulfully poetic” by NPR among other accolades.
Summerfair 2014 will also feature local performers including three groups from Cincy Sings, the local singing competition hosted by Drew Lachey this past spring. Many other bands, soloists, dance and theater groups will be on hand performing on four different stages. Strolling entertainers – including musicians and barbershop quartets – will be found throughout the fair.
This year puppeteers and balloon artists will entertain and amaze younger fair patrons in the Youth Arts Rocks! area. The designated section for kids will offer an assortment of art activities and other entertainment for children.
For the fourth year in a row, Summerfair and Cincy Chic will host the Little Black Dress Event, a fundraiser fashion show. The fashion show features jewelry and accessories by 2014 Summerfair artists and little black dresses from several of Cincinnati’s very own boutiques.
