My family had a blast on an 8 day RV adventure to the Mid-Atlantic. We decided to make Pittsburgh the first stop on our itinerary because it’s a reasonable drive from Cincinnati. We also wanted an excuse to come back after falling in love with the city a few years ago. My grandfather joined our family on a 3 week vacation out West when I was a teenager, and it was a full circle experience to have my dad join our family on this multi generational vacation.
I have to admit that my visit to Fort Wayne, Indiana really surprised me. I had no idea that the downtown had so much to offer. Growing up, we would visit my cousins who lived about 30 minutes from downtown Fort Wayne, but we typically only visited the mall which left me with an impression from 30+ years ago that there wasn’t much to do there. Well Fort Wayne, you got the last laugh and my apology.
I look forward to the butterfly show at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati every year. The butterfly exhibit takes us from spring to summer with a gorgeous array of butterflies and flowers.
I have to start out with a confession, I honestly didn’t really know if the Toledo Zoo could compare to my home zoo (Cincinnati Zoo) and I was pleasantly surprised that the Toledo Zoo exceeded my expectations. Our first visit to the Toledo Zoo began at the Aquarium with a Behind-the-Scenes Tour with Ron Fricke, deputy director of the Zoo.
I LOVE dolphins! They have been my favorite animal ever since I was a little girl… but as a gal living in the Midwest, dolphins in their natural habitat are nowhere near. I was really excited when I learned that the Indianapolis Zoo had dolphins that you could see upclose.
For my first visit to Wilstem Ranch I tried an adventure on their ATV tour that gave me more confidence that I could drive an ATV sucessfully over challenging torerain. For my second adventure at Wilstem Ranch, I discovered another reason that I HAD to go back.
An opportunity to encounter an elephant up close.
Our family loves any excuse to visit the Smoky Mountain region. There is always a great mix of nature and adventure there.
I love to go to the Krohn Conservatory’s Butterfly Show every year but this year’s theme might be my favorite. Why???
When you visit the Cincinnati Metro area, there is so much to see and do for families.
A friend shared with me about a wolf encounter that she has in Brookville, Indiana and I immediately became obsessed with crossing a wolf encounter off of my adventure list as soon as possible. The power of an adventure suggestion is very strong, and once I hear about something unique to try, I have instant tunnel vision.
