As someone who enjoys eating meat, there has always been a bit of a disconnect for me when it comes to connecting my food choices to their sources. I know where they come from, but I tend to not dwell on it too long. When I was invited to visit a pork farmer to learn more about the industry, I thought “why not?!”
I’ll admit that I tend to be more of a dog person, but cats have really grown on me over the years. My experience has been that dogs tend to be pretty easy to win over and cats tend to enjoy making you work a little more for their affection. Our family doesn’t own any pets, but we do love to visit other people’s dogs at the dog park…. and now we can visit cats…and even potentially take them home with us.
We recently joined Food Hussy on an adventure to visit the first cat cafe in the Cincinnati region, Kitty Brew Cat Cafe, for a facebook live for Vocalpoint. We had a great time and I wanted to share some tips to help you make the most out of your first visit.
There are several adventures around the Tri-State that will get your heart racing. I’m highlighting extreme adventures that you can try from each state that equal the thrill seekers trifecta of fun.
I added Ocean City, Maryland to the RV itinerary during the planning phase our our trip because it was an area that we had never visited before. I also wanted to see the wild horses at Assateaque National Park which had been on my travel bucket list for quite some time.
My family had a blast on an 8 day RV adventure to the Mid-Atlantic. We decided to make Pittsburgh the first stop on our itinerary because it’s a reasonable drive from Cincinnati. We also wanted an excuse to come back after falling in love with the city a few years ago. My grandfather joined our family on a 3 week vacation out West when I was a teenager, and it was a full circle experience to have my dad join our family on this multi generational vacation.
I have to admit that my visit to Fort Wayne, Indiana really surprised me. I had no idea that the downtown had so much to offer. Growing up, we would visit my cousins who lived about 30 minutes from downtown Fort Wayne, but we typically only visited the mall which left me with an impression from 30+ years ago that there wasn’t much to do there. Well Fort Wayne, you got the last laugh and my apology.
I look forward to the butterfly show at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati every year. The butterfly exhibit takes us from spring to summer with a gorgeous array of butterflies and flowers.
I have to start out with a confession, I honestly didn’t really know if the Toledo Zoo could compare to my home zoo (Cincinnati Zoo) and I was pleasantly surprised that the Toledo Zoo exceeded my expectations. Our first visit to the Toledo Zoo began at the Aquarium with a Behind-the-Scenes Tour with Ron Fricke, deputy director of the Zoo.
I LOVE dolphins! They have been my favorite animal ever since I was a little girl… but as a gal living in the Midwest, dolphins in their natural habitat are nowhere near. I was really excited when I learned that the Indianapolis Zoo had dolphins that you could see upclose.
