To get a better understanding of the Kentucky Derby, a great place to start racing appreciation is at the Kentucky Derby Museum located next to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Wagner’s Pharmacy in Louisville, Kentucky has been a favorite of locals and out-of-towners since 1922. Wagner’s Pharmacy becomes an even more popular meeting spot for all walks of life during horse racing season.
This dining gem has grown in popularity due to it’s close location to Churchill Downs and national exposure from media outlets. Reporters and racing writers have enjoyed meals and cups of coffee at this spot for years during the weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby.
The walls inside Wagner’s Pharmacy tell a story of horse racing admiration and of a close connection to the racing industry.
The waitstaff at Wagner’s Pharmacy serves up southern hospitality along with great comfort food. You could tell that many of the customers during our visit had been regulars for years.
I opted for the classic southern comfort food of biscuits and gravy.
My boys ordered pancakes that were huge!
My husband opted for the omelette. the food and hospitality was so tasty and made you feel right at home.
After your meal you can check out the pharmacy located in the back.
On our way out our waitress gave each of my boys a horseshoe. She said that someone at the track drops them off pretty often to give away.
Our visit to Wagner’s Pharmacy was the perfect way to begin our adventure in learning about horse racing in Louisville.

So here is the start of the running tab. I reserve the right to add to the list as my curiosity continues to become aware of new places and experiences to try. Some are way more ambitious than others, but I figured I might as well go with the quote “shoot for the moon and if you miss you are still among the stars” Travel wise I would love to go all over the world but gotta start a little smaller. The list could really go on and on…….this is just scratching the surface . So I guess this is my start but I don’t ever want to stop adding.
Remember a “Goal is dream with a deadline.” Don’t let time get away from your dreams.
“If you want to do something bad enough, you will find a way, if not you find an excuse.”
What’s on your list? What should I add to mine? Who wants to join me?
