I love getting behind the scene access during a food tour because I find food production pretty fascinating. I was recently invited to visit the Sugardale Bacon Plant in Massillon, Ohio to learn more about the company and how bacon is processed… because life is better with BACON!
I was invited to tasting and tour at the Bob Evans headquarters with Ohio Pork Farmers. We got to spend time talking to the farmers over lunch as we learned more about what life is like as a modern day farmer who helps provide the pork that we find at our local grocery stores which reminded me of my visit to meet Ohio pork farmer “Uncle Squeals.” We learned so much from the farmers and we also tried lots of amazing foods created by the Bob Evans team with pork products. I was given the challenge to make one of those recipes when I got home.
As someone who enjoys eating meat, there has always been a bit of a disconnect for me when it comes to connecting my food choices to their sources. I know where they come from, but I tend to not dwell on it too long. When I was invited to visit a pork farmer to learn more about the industry, I thought “why not?!”
