During our trip with Visit Pittsburgh, we got to enjoy several restaurants in the area. On our first evening, we visited Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh.
I was familiar with Hofbräuhaus because we have the first location that came to the United States close to where I live in Newport, Kentucky near Cincinnati.
I knew I could expect great food, beer, and a fun atmosphere.
Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh has bragging rights as Pennsylvania’s first authentic Hofbräuhaus.
Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh is modeled after the 400+-year-old Hofbrauhaus in Munich, Germany.
There is plenty of room to bring a large group or to meet a lot of new friends.
The outside seating area offers great views of the river. The restaurant is on the former site of a steel mill.
During your visit, you can enjoy the sounds of polka and maybe even get serenaded by an accordion.
The menu offers traditional Bavarian dishes that the whole family will enjoy.
Giant pretzels, sauerkraut balls, deep-fried pickles, and potato pancakes are an appetizer must!
Come hungry because the portions are large and the food is very filling.
And of course the main attraction, beer. If you love beer, you will LOVE the size of their steins!
There are four all-year-round varieties and seasonal beers as well that are the original recipes from over 400 years ago by the Duke of Bavaria.

Check out Town Square at Southside Works
After your meal, you might want to swing by the Town Square at Southside Works.
It’s a great shopping complex with popular stores that are within walking distance from Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh that also has a fountain for kids to run through.

In the Free State of Saxony we have clearly overrun Bavaria in beer consumption but our Oktoberfest is much smaller than that in Munich. I like the landscape around Pittsburgh and the unique location on three rivers. Almost nobody in Dresden, Germany, has ever heard much of Pittsburgh but I am in a period of changing this as I think Pittsburgh has exactly what we lack for the borderless champions’ league. We are safely said also a high-tech city but often we are too romantically arrogant. Nobody sees it like that but changing perspective and exploring globally is creative fun and puts all things in relation, some are hyped, some are hidden and beer garden belong into all cities as a choice. There is nothing like Chimichanga as another.
so sad that you came to pittsburgh and visited a chain restaurant so similar to the one you have near your home. hope you had the opportunity to enjoy lots of other fun things while in the burgh.
