With 1400+ holiday events over the course of 40 days, Grapevine, Texas is known as the “Christmas Capital of Texas” and they take that title seriously.
You may think that holiday events are only revolving around kids, but you will find that many of these adventures are great for a date night or evening out with friends too.
Downtown Holiday Charm
A historic downtown that’s beautifully decorated for both day and night. Wander down the streets and you will find great restaurants, unique shops, and holiday cheer all around you.
Explore & Make Art
You can explore art in more ways than one in Grapevine. Stop into one of the galleries on Main Street to see works from artists around the country.
The Great American West Gallery resides inside a historic building that was formerly a bank from 1920-1946. You can even view art inside the former bank vault.
The gallery specializes in bronze sculptures and paintings depicting the Amercian west of the past and present.
Another stop along Main Street that conveniently connects to the Bingham Winery tasting room is Giddens Gallery of Fine Art. The gallery is filled with original art from local and regional artists like Rosemary Riddle-Achelpohl , who enjoys painting with oils and a palette knife.
Create Your Own Work of Art
After getting inspiration from all of those galleries, you might even be inspired to create your own work of art during a class at Paint with a Twist. Don’t worry, they will walk you through it step by step.
You can even bring your own wine to help you relax a little easier while you work on your masterpiece. Even though everyone is working on the same concept, the final results will vary a bit making it a one of a kind gift or memento.
Make A Glass Ornament
Another bucket list adventure is at Vetro Glassblowing where you can help create a glass blown ornament.
You pick out the colors for your ornament and then assist the glass artists as you witness the behind the scenes of the transformation from start to finish.
I LOVED being able to get so close to the process and the best part is that you have a beautiful ornament to take home that you helped create.
There are 9 wine tasting room options to experience in Grapevine. During my visit, I made a stop at the Tasting Room downtown for Bingham Family Winery. Bingham Vineyards are located in the Texas high plains about 4 hours away.
I enjoyed a few glasses of their award-winning wine, Dugout, that’s an oak aged multi-year blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. along with a shared cheese tray.
“To be a great place to visit, you must first be a great place to live.”
Enjoy Guilt Free Chocolate
Taste your way through Dr. Sue’s Chocolate without the guilt because all of her products are made with all natural dark chocolate. Dr. Sue is a practicing physician who is dedicated to helping others live healthier lives by offering healthier options and ingredients with a business that dedicates a large portion to giving back into the community.
One of my favorites was the Hazelnut Toffee Bark made with crunchy hazelnut toffee and fleur de sel coated with smooth dark chocolate and topped with toasted hazelnuts, but it was really hard to pick a favorite because each flavor is sooo good!
I highly recommend sampling a few and don’t forget to check out the hot chocolate bar. The Mexican Hot Chocolate was my favorite.
Solve A Mystery
Share a meal with lots of laughs as you try to figure out whodunnit at the Texas Star Dinner Theater. Your table will work together to solve the mystery and name the murderer. The ending changes often so you can come back again and still be surprised.
Speaking of surprises, I typically order entrees with meat but I decided to order the Eggplant Piccata. The dish was topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses, drizzled with a balsamic glaze served on Marinara Penne Pasta with sliced Zucchini and Squash topped with a balsamic glaze.
It was so good that I almost forgot that it was a vegetarian dish. This is a great adventure to mix up a night out with friends. The actors will also remind you that the more you drink, the funnier they get.
Frozen Fun at ICE at the Gaylord Texan Resort
Bundle up and get ready for an icy indoor adventure at ICE! at the Gaylord Texan Resort. There are more than 2 million pounds of hand-carved themed ice sculptures located throughout a 14,000-square-foot exhibit hall carved by over 40 ice sculptors.
The exhibit provides you with a heavy parka before you enter the 9-degree winter wonderland, but it doesn’t have pockets so make sure that you bring gloves and you will definitely want to wear close-toed shoes!
Another unique adventure for guests 21+ is located inside ICE at the On the Blocks Ice Bar where guests can drink an adult beverage inside a unique frozen setting.
You can also snow tube inside or enjoy ice skating outside for an additional fee.
The ice slide isn’t just for kids and I’ll give you a tip for going down, try to slide on your parka as much as possible or you will go down super slow. (I speak from experience)
