Macy’s Holiday Events Downtown that you don’t want to miss!

November 19, 2015 By Nedra McDaniel Leave a Comment

Macy's Holiday Events downtown that you don't want to miss!

Each year I look forward to going downtown for Macy’s Holiday Events. There is something magical about being downtown around the holiday season. This has become one of my favorite traditions with my family. I love that this event is also FREE to the community and that Santa shows his adventurous side by rappelling down a building when he visits Cincinnati.

Macy's Downtown Dazzle

So what can you expect this year?

Celebrate 11 years of Santa and his friends rappelling down the side of the 525 Vine Building to the Macy’s rooftop to kick off a spectacular fireworks display. This 20-minute family-friendly program features performances from local choirs, new lighting effects, and a few surprises. Then each week follow the Family Fun inside the Macy’s Fountain Place from 7-9pm!

Gifts that Give Back

December 10, 2013 By Nedra McDaniel 2 Comments

All of these gift ideas give back and make life better for others. You’ll find something that can fit any budget with these ideas below.

Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

Heart of Haiti

Heart of Haiti

The Heart of Haiti initiative provides artists with an opportunity to make a living, feed their families and pay their children’s school fees. Already, The Heart of Haiti collection has led to employment of 750 artists in Haiti providing financial benefits for an estimated 8,000 people in the country. The collection is made almost entirely from recycled and sustainable items such as old cement bags, cardboard, oil drums & local gommier wood.

Sharing a “gift that gives back” is a great way to raise awareness and celebrate artistry and regrowth. Heart of Haiti products are available exclusively on www.Macys.com/Haiti. To stay up-to-date with news and announcements, follow @HeartofHaiti on Twitter or like their Facebook page https://facebook.com/HeartofHaiti.

Headbands of Hope

Headbands of Hope

For every headband purchased, one is given to a girl with cancer and $1 is donated to St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund life-saving childhood cancer research.

If you use the discount code “Cincybloggers” a headband will be donated to a burn patient at Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati.

You can follow @Headbandsofhope on twitter or like their facebook page. You can find out more about Headbands of Hope from their website.

TOMS Shoes

TOMS Shoes

With every product you purchase, TOMS will help a person in need. One for One.

You can see more of TOMS products on their website. You can like them on facebook and follow them on twitter at @Toms.

KUTOA

Kutoa

In Swahili the word ku-toa means “to give”.  That’s the very basic yet very powerful concept that KUTOA is based on.  For every KUTOA health bar purchased, KUTOA donates, through a partnernship with the World Food Program, a nutrition pack to a child suffering from malnutrition, providing them with the vitamins, minerals and micronutrients.  The KUTOA bars are 100% natural and are made with only the best natural ingredients including organic oats, fresh fruit and nuts.  They contain no preservatives, additives or artificial ingredients. The bars currently come in three scrumptious flavors: cherry cashew, raisin peanut and blueberry almond.

You can find out more about them on their website. You can also like them on facebook and follow them at @kutoabars.

You and Who

You and Who

You and Who markets original design t-shirts and for every one sold, a matching shirt is donated to someone in need in the city of the artist who designed the shirt through local charity partners. Through this model, You and Who is not only helping those in need, but also the very artists who design the one for one t-shirts, providing exposure for their work (each artist that works with You and Who has their own biography on the website) and paying them $1 from the sale of each of their one for one t-shirt designs that is sold.  All of the one for one t-shirts from You and Who are unique fashion statements, featuring colorful one-of-a-kind prints and designs that are sure to help you stand out from the crowd.

Carabello Coffee

Carabello Coffee

Carabello Coffee offers you the very best in quality through Fair Trade, organic, and even farm direct and direct relationship coffees.  What is farm direct?  It is a way for coffee roasters to buy straight from the farmers at a price that is a minimum of %100 higher than  Fair Trade pricing, ensuring that farmers are truly paid a price that will allow them to improve their businesses.  Farm gate allows real faces to be attached to this product.  Real people really grow and process this coffee, not a machine!

As a philanthropic coffee roasting company, our mission is to artisan roast exceptional coffees and then use our profits to fund what we like to call “works of compassion.”  We do that both here in our Cincinnati community as well as abroad in places like Nicaragua and Kenya.

Outside of the USA we use our coffee profits to support two works.  Each is doing work among orphans, the one in Nicaragua, the other in Kenya.  Each has its own website where you can read more: Kids of Cascabel Orphange, Somoto, Nicaragua

You can visit Carabello Coffee online or at at 107 E. 9th St. Newport, KY 4107. You can also like them on facebook and follow them at
