A conversation with my friend by the pool prompted my curiosity to learn more about what Kings Island Amusement Park offered for guests with special needs. I was sharing about a recent visit to the park and she was wondering if there were resources available for her son with Down Syndrome. This is an issue very close to my heart as someone who had a sibling with special needs and as someone with several friends who have children with special needs.
Sibling questions are always a bit awkward because my only sibling died when I was in middle school. Growing up with a brother with special needs has shaped me in so many ways to become the person that I am today.
Today I’m interviewing my close friend Michelle. We have been friends for a long time and she has been an inspiration to me with her love for people and her love in action by intentionally adopting a child with Down Syndrome. You cannot be around her special son without smiling. He has been such a joy for our family to get to know. As a person who had a sibling with a disability, I admire the sacrifice and grace she handles with each challenge that comes with raising a child with special needs.
