I had a mouth of metal for 3 years. It’s bittersweet because my teeth are way better now. It might have also been nice protective barrier on my parent’s end too. My middle school years were already awkward and my braces only added to my insecurity.
I remember food restrictions, painful anxiety driven visits to the orthodontist, my mouth having cuts from the brackets and rubber bands that would break and snap when I tried to put them on. So grateful to have those memories really far behind me.
My kids are now transitioning into their adult teeth and I wonder if they will also have teeth that will need to be aligned. You can find out if your kids are a candidate for Invisalign by finding a certified Invisalign provider by using the Invisalign doctor locator.
I had the opportunity to hear about what Invisalign is doing to change the experience of those not blessed with perfect teeth with a few other bloggers. I was vaguely familiar with Invisalign and interested in the opportunity to learn more.
Invisalign is an alternative to braces that gradually straightens teeth by using clear, removable aligners.
The cost is about the same as traditional braces but usually requires fewer office visits, shorter appointments and you don’t have those “emergency” visits for broken brackets or wires. You also don’t have the sports related injuries with hitting the braces. I remember hearing a story in high school from a freshman whose older brother would open his mouth and pin him down on the carpet so that his braces would get caught on the carpet fibers.
The Invisalign teen product is available for teens and pre teens. I think my boys would benefit from having Invisalign as an alternative to braces. Another advantage is that you can fully clean your teeth. It was really difficult for me to floss and brush with braces because a lot of areas were harder to get to.
Invisalign patients can start to see results in as little as 90 days and they also now use digital dental impressions vs. the gross mold that made me gag as a kid. With the digital scan technology they can develop an accurate plan to get the patient’s teeth straight as quickly as possible.

I wish I had this available in middle school. A shorter length of time until you have a perfect smile. Way better than 3 years of metal. My teeth have also moved since middle school. Invisalign sounds way better than trying to locate my 8th grade retainer.
Have you or someone you know tried Invisalign?

I am so thankful my parents put me through braces as a teen. yes it was annoying but now I have straight teeth for life!
Oh Howie!!!!!! So ugly! 🙂
Rebecca- I had a bottom built in retainer that broke too. My 8th grade retainer is long gone and my teeth have moved some too. Invisalign sounds like a better fix than metal to me too.
I did have braces. And I still have my retainer and wear it periodically to straighten up my top teeth! The retainer for my bottom teeth broke several years ago. Those teeth have definitely shifted. Maybe Invisalign is in my future….
