I invited my middle schooler to join me for the opening night of Finding Neverland the Musical in Cincinnati. He shared with me his favorite parts about the play and I’m passing them on to you.
Thanks to Framester for the complimentary picture before the show.
1. You learn about the backstory behind Peter Pan
My son enjoyed discovering how several of the concepts incorporated into the story of Peter Pan came from the main characters’ experiences in life.
2. They use real dogs.
My son loves animals and he was really excited to see a real dog used in the play. I was told that the dogs are rescues who have been trained for their Broadway debut.
3. The kids in the play made it more interesting
As a kid, it’s always fun to discover other kids to connect to in the storyline. (They did a phenomenal job by the way and the play is recommended for children ages 7 and up.)
4. The main character was his favorite
My son thought that the play was funny and he enjoyed the main character, J. M. Barrie the most. He loved when he acted out his imagination in the scenes as he was developing the new play.
More About The Musical

Directed by Tony®-winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Hair) with book by Olivier Award®-nominee James Graham, music and lyrics by Gary Barlow (Take That) and Grammy Award®- winner Eliot Kennedy, and choreography by Emmy Award®-winner Mia Michaels (“So You Think You Can Dance,” Cirque du Soleil’s Delirium), this new musical, packed with mesmerizing visuals, irresistible songs and plenty of laughs, is a timeless story about the power of imagination… and spectacular proof that you never really have to grow up.
