We decided to check out Libby’s Southern Comfort in Covington for a friend’s birthday lunch.
It met the criteria for our restaurant adventure because all of us had never been there before and we had heard great things.
They Have Bourbon Slush!
Yes, they have bourbon slush! I typically prefer to drink my bourbon neat and I found Libby’s Cheerwine Bourbon Slush to be REALLY sweet. The bourbon slush is made with the Legendary cherry soft drink of the south and Kentucky bourbon mixed into a slush like no other, garnished with a Bada Bing cherry.
It was a unique take on the traditional Bourbon slush if you are in the mood to mix things up.
You will also find a wide assortment of aged bourbon that includes some rarer finds.
They also have the 8th Street Frose’ if you are not a fan of bourbon. A Frose is a frozen mixture of Rosé wine, simple syrup and a touch of strawberry, garnished with a lemon twist)
Drinks can add up quickly so choose your options wisely.
Goetta Hush Puppies
We started with the Goetta hush puppies served with remoulade sauce and citrus honey cream.
If you are not familiar with goetta, it’s a very popular blend of sausage, spices, and oats that is primarily served for breakfast but there are plenty of variations on the sausage blend that you can enjoy at any meal.
Cincinnati has a large German population which was its inspiration.
My favorite of the two sauces was the remoulade sauce and one bite will have you wishing that didn’t have to share.
Chicken Biscuit Sliders
I ordered the Chicken Biscuit Sliders. (Fried, sweet chili chicken thigh with Libby’s pimento cheese served on buttermilk biscuits)
The pimento cheese on the chicken biscuit was absolutely delicious!
Willy Burger
My husband ordered the Willy Burger (Fresh burger with smoked gouda cheese, bourbon onion jam, lettuce, tomato, and remoulade served on Blue Oven Potato Bun).
Shrimp and Grits
My friend ordered the appetizer of shrimp and grits as a meal (tasso grits topped with blackened shrimp, fried onion straws, and chives)
It’s a great portion as a meal or if you want to share as a more filling appetizer.
Charlie Brown
Her husband ordered the Charlie Brown. The sandwich was made with oven roasted turkey and country ham atop Blue Oven bread with house-made cheddar cheese sauce, bacon, heirloom tomato, and topped with parmesan cheese. Served with a side salad.
This is the perfect dish if you are a fan of a Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich.
A Sweet Treat
Picture an elevated Little Debbie with far better cookies as the foundation and amazing delicious creme in the middle.
The Oatmeal Creme pies from Northern Kentucky home bakery come in twos so you can share or take one home for later.
If you are too stuffed to eat one at the restaurant make sure that you get some to bring home.
Plan Ahead
I called ahead to try to reserve a table but Libby’s does not take reservations.
I would recommend trying to visit at an off time if you have a larger group or if you don’t want to wait on a table.
There is an outdoor dining area that will be really nice on a sunny day and a large bar.
