Adventures at the Ohio Renaissance Festival 2

Our family recently went The Renaissance Festival for the first time together.

castle entrance

My husband and I went YEARS ago, pre- kids and we were excited to see the festival through the kids’ eyes.

The hardest part for us was deciding which area of the festival to check out first.

The festival offers a lot of shows to enjoy that are scheduled throughout the day. Make sure you try to see as many as possible.

The Kamikaze Fireflies were so much fun to watch.

They were also really funny! They demonstrated a wide range of talents and skills.

There is a Pirate Show that offers a lot of action.

You can also watch men joust! There is nothing fake about what you see in the joust.

We even saw a rider dismounted from his horse during his match.

The impact of the lance is equivalent to 1000 pounds of pressure!

Combat Human Chess takes chess to another level!

And the MUDatorium where you WILL get muddy if you are in the first few rows.

This guy can vouch for that.

One of the actors hovered over me with a clump of mud as he stood above me on a bench.

My family didn’t even try to protect me because they wanted to see me covered in mud but he spared me anyway. (Others victims were not as lucky) He did muddy up my sunglasses and sat next to me long enough to make nervous.

After several of the shows, you have an opportunity to be generous to the performers with your tips. They definitely earned our tips!

The people watching at the festival is also AWESOME! You see creative costumes EVERYWHERE!

Some people are part of the festival, others just really enjoy an excuse to dress up.

There are shops where you can buy just about anything that would fit in with that time period.

The elf ears and animal tails were pretty popular to wear among festival guests during our visit.

The Renaissance Festival is a great way to learn more about a culture with hands on entertainment.

I would suggest bringing a good amount of cash with you. Parking is also $3 and there is an ATM available on the festival grounds if you need it.

The festival also has a large selection of vendors who have drinks, beer and fun foods like giant turkey legs and lots of area where you can relax while enjoying music.

There are also lots of places to take pictures so bring your camera!

The Ohio Renaissance Festival runs from August 31st – October 20th
