If you’re looking for a cabin near Cumberland Falls, the Star Falls Cabin at Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort is a great option for your next group overnight.
Our girlfriend getaway was a great mix of relaxation, hiking, exploring downtown Corbin, and the optimism that we might witness a moonbow at Cumberland Falls.

Thanks again to Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort for hosting our stay for review purposes. All opinions are my own. This article contains affiliate links.

Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort is conveniently located only 9 minutes/ 5 miles from Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, which attracts over 800,000 visitors annually.
Cumberland Falls is known as the “Niagara of the South” with a waterfall that stretches 125 feet wide and 68 feet tall.

Cumberland Falls is also one of two places in the world where you can consistently see a moonbow at night.
And if you’re going to be out late at night waiting for a moonbow, it’s nice to have a short drive back to your cabin afterward.

How Many People Does the Star Falls Cabin Sleep?
The Star Falls Cabin can sleep up to 10-12 guests. We had 8 people in our group, and the cabin worked out great for our group size.

The cabin features three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and an open-concept dining and living room space with heat and air conditioning for year-round comfort.
The cabin has a pet-free policy, so leave your furry family members at home.

Kitchen at Star Falls Cabin
The full kitchen at the Cabin features an electric oven, microwave, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, and coffee pot.

You have all the basic pots and pans needed for making meals during your stay, with utensils and dishes for up to 12 people.
The kitchen has a start-up supply of paper towels, dishwashing liquid, and trash bags.
There are also brooms, a mop, a small jug of laundry detergent, and other basic cleaning supplies
in the cabin for guests if needed.

Friday night, we ordered pizzas on our way into town from Apollo Pizza in downtown Corbin to take back to the cabin.
We used the kitchen for breakfast both mornings and dinner on Saturday night.

The dining room table is large enough for meals, playing card games, puzzles, and board games. There’s also a bench nearby if you need additional seating.

Sleeping Options at the Star Falls Cabin
Depending on your group dynamics, you may want to plan the sleeping arrangements for the cabin in advance because the rooms aren’t divided equally.
Our strategy was based on who didn’t mind sharing a bed, who was a light sleeper, and who snored… but I’m not sharing who was who.

All the bedding and linens are provided for guests, and each bedroom has a closet with a small dresser.

Bedroom 1
Bedroom 1 has a queen-sized bed and a private half bath. This bedroom is closest to the kitchen/ dining area and has a small private balcony deck.

There’s also a washer/dryer combo in this bathroom, in case your group needs to do any laundry during your stay.

Bedroom 2
Bedroom 2 has a full-size bed and a twin-sized bed. There’s a closet, a dresser, and a nightstand for additional storage. This bedroom is between the other bedrooms.

Bedroom 3
Bedroom 3 has a full-sized bed and a bunk bed with a twin-sized bed over a full-sized bed. This bedroom is closest to the living area.

Living Area at Star Falls Cabin
In the living room area, there are two comfortable couches, a gas fireplace, a smart TV, and a Blu-ray DVD player.
There’s a pullout sleeper sofa in one of the couches for additional guests.

Full-Sized Bathroom
The full-sized bathroom has a step-in shower with great water pressure.
Bath towels are provided along with a start-up set of bath soap and toilet tissue.

Wrap Around Porch Area for the Star Falls Cabin
There’s a table with seating for six where you can dine or hang out outside on the wrap-around porch. Ceiling fans are above the table to help bring relief on humid days.

On the other side of the porch, guests can relax on the glider. This side of the cabin has an accessible ramp for guests as an alternative to the stairs.

A gas grill is available near a picnic table for additional space for outdoor meals. Propane gas is included, and there’s a basic set of grilling tools for guests to use.

Fire Pit Area at Star Falls Cabin
We enjoyed a fire on Saturday night before we left to view the moonbow at the state park. If the weather had cooperated, we would have made a fire both nights.
A bundle of firewood is provided for each night of your stay at the cabin.

I’d recommend bringing some camping chairs for a more comfortable seating option by the fire.
I also brought a “Pull Start Fire” starter because it doesn’t require matches or kindling and lights wet wood.
Bedding needs to stay inside, so pack some cozy outdoor blankets for your time by the fire.

Additional Accommodations at Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort
Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort offers a variety of additional lodging options.

Guests can book couples’ cabins, rustic cabins, RV sites, and tent camping.

My family has previously stayed in their rustic cabins and covered wagons that were surprisingly spacious.

A highlight of staying in the wagons circled up around the large fire pit at night is gazing at the stars above and envisioning what real pioneers went through.

Our Weekend Itinerary
Friday night – takeout from Apollo Pizza and games at the cabin (rained out for the moonbow viewing)

Saturday Adventures
We packed a lot of adventures into our Saturday itinerary as our only full day to explore.

Enjoy the Views at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
We took pictures at each of the scenic viewing areas in the park. Each one is worth checking out for a different perspective.

Hike to Eagle Falls
The hike to Eagle Falls is a 2-mile loop with a 620-foot elevation gain. We wanted a scenic hike that allowed us enough time to spend a few hours in downtown Corbin before the shops closed.

This hike has stairs and can be slippery when wet, but the views of Cumberland Falls and Eagle Falls are worth it.

Explore Downtown Corbin
Downtown Corbin is only 13.1 miles/ 22 minutes away from Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. We spent a few hours exploring the shops downtown.

There are several great local restaurants and antique shops to choose from in downtown Corbin, including Alley Stuff Antiques and Eccentricities.

Take a picture of the Colonel Sanders Statue at Sanders Park
Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, is the hometown hero of Corbin.

Caffinate at Folktale Coffee & Bakehouse
This is a great stop for a pastry and artisan coffee.

Check out the Pinball Museum of Corbin
Visitors can purchase an hourly pass or a day pass for unlimited play.

View the Moonbow at Cumberland Falls
After enjoying our bonfire at the cabin, we made our way back to the state park in anticipation of the moonbow.
We brought camping chairs, blankets, and warm drinks while we waited for the arrival of the natural phenomenon.
Your best chance of seeing a moonbow is on the night of a full moon, or the couple of nights before and after when the moon is nearly full.
Use the long exposure on your camera. For cold nights, I recommend bringing rechargeable hand warmers if you plan on taking a lot of pictures and don’t want to take your gloves on and off.

Sunday
Hiking at Laurel River Lake Recreational Area
In full transparency, our hike here was cut short due to it being a frigid, cold day. If you visit during the warmer months, Laurel Lake has a nice beach area.
Overall, we enjoyed a great mix of relaxation and enjoying the downtown and the outdoors.
