I’m soooo excited about the new MakerSpace at the Public Library of Cincinnati. The new space is a crafter and creatives dream! This space allows you to use creative machines and equipment that most people don’t have access to for FREE!

I previewed MakerSpace with my boys and we had a great time trying out the different equipment. I’m really looking forward to trying out some of the free classes in the future.

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has opened a MakerSpace on the second floor of the Main Library. The MakerSpace, a shared workspace where people create collaboratively, will house state-of-the-art machines and equipment and will be free for public use.

“MakerSpaces are becoming progressively more popular worldwide, and as one of the nation’s leading libraries, we strive to provide our cardholders with access to cutting-edge services and technology that continually enrich their lives,” said Kimber L. Fender, The Eva Jane Romaine Coombe Director. “Our goal for this space is for it to inspire creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning without boundaries.”

This space is intended for educational development, but it’s not just for kids. All adults and teens can sew, engrave, make 3D objects, mix and record sound, and take professional photographs. Beyond learning about the technology, anyone can use the space as a resource — from local businesses to students to freelancers who don’t own their own equipment or software.

The space is available for children and adults ages four and over. Library residents can reserve machines online from the library’s website.

The MakerSpace is open to the public Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 – 4 p.m. The equipment will be free to use, and customers will need to pay a nominal fee for consumable parts of their projects.
