Hitsville USA Motown Museum in Detroit,Michigan

If you visit Detroit, you need to add Hitsville, USA otherwise known as the Motown Museum, to your itinerary.  This is the birthplace of the sound of Motown that launched musical legends.  You would almost miss it if you didn’t know to look for it.

The museum is located near a row of houses and blends in with it’s surroundings.

The house you step into takes you on a journey back in time.  The museum is housed in the former home of Berry Gordy Jr.. His vision changed the course of music as we know it.  All of the greats have filled the radiowaves from the famous studio A.

It’s incredible to see firsthand how small the studio was that so many amazing artists recorded in.  The studio is filled with the instruments and recording devices that were used for many of the household names of Motown that we recognize today.  Names like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, the Jackson Five and many more.

We were guided through rooms that were restored to look like they did in the 60’s.  It really felt like you were stepping back in time to experience what it would have been like during that time in history.

There is also a lot of really cool memorabilia….including one of Michael Jackson’s glitter gloves.

(I would have showed you but …Photography is not allowed inside the museum.)

We really enjoyed learning the history behind the airwaves.  It was so inspiring to see how Barry Gordy turned a loan from his family into a history changing, industry changing business.

This museum is really an inspiration to not give up on your dreams and that great things can come from humble beginnings.
