Mermaid Meet and Greet at Newport Aquarium
Guests can make friends with a Mermaid during special meet and greet times in Shark Ray Bay Theater.
This is the perfect spot to take a posed picture and interact with a Mermaid who is out of the water.
The Mermaid Meet and Greet is very popular so be prepared to entertain your kids in line for a few minutes while they wait.
Guests can also walk up to the large viewing window of the Shark Ray Bay Theater to watch the sharks to the right of the line.
Visit a Mermaid in Mermaid Cove
Guests at the Newport Aquarium can visit with a mermaid partially in the water at Mermaid Cove.
There is also a fun cut-out mermaid photo stop in this area.
Watch a Mermaid Swim in the Coral Reef Tunnel at Newport Aquarium
As guests enter the tunnel for the mermaid viewing they have the option to wait in line to the left for a closer view or they can bypass the line on the right.
Newport Aquarium is set up for guests to pass through each exhibit in one direction moving on to the next.
If you’re at the aquarium to watch a mermaid swim, I would recommend waiting in line for the best viewing and photo ops.
This is the only place where you can view mermaids swimming in the water.
There is a lot of underwater activity in the tunnels to watch while you wait.
The line inside the tunnel moves pretty quickly when there is a mermaid sighting. You’ll definitely want to be ready with your phone for quick pictures and videos.
The closer you are to the glass the easier it is for the mermaid to interact with you or your child.
The mermaids do take breaks and switch out their time in the tank too.
Enjoy the Rest of the Exhibits at Newport Aquarium
There are plenty of things to see and do throughout Newport Aquarium before and after your mermaid sightings.
Be on the lookout for the rare albino American alligators “Snowflake” and “Snowball” in the Gator Alley exhibit.
If your kids need to burn off some energy they will have a blast at Jim Henson’s Splash and Bubbles Reeftown Adventure with areas where they can climb, slide, and draw.
Cross the Shark Bridge before you go…if you dare.

We wanted to take our daughter to mermaids in Florida last year, and didn’t get a chance. She is going to be thrilled when we see these!
I agree. You can take a mermaid course in Florida. I think it would be fun to try.
I think it is crazy how they smile and have their eyes open under water for that long….that truly is impressive!
Awesome! I saw them years ago in Florida. Never could learn to stay underwater as long as they do.. tried and tried as a kid.
Awesome you got to see our mermaids!!! I absolutely LOVE going to Weeki Wachee State Park. Hopefully when you plan your Florida adventure you will get to see them in their underwater theater because it’s very very cool.
I think my kids would love this – especially my son. We haven’t been to the aquarium in almost 4 years!! We need to make our way to Newport, I love it down there!
That looks like fun! I’m convinced my daughter is part mermaid, so she would probably like it. 🙂
