Thinking about running in a glow run?
We had a lot of fun at our very 1st glow run with the Neon Vibe 5K and we’ve enjoyed a few more since then which is why I’ve created a list of a few tips to have the best glow run experience possible.
You will get some with your race, but to really stand out, look for some creative accessories online or you can stock up at a local dollar store.
I have run a few of these types of races now and we have gotten temporarily separated from our group a few times. It’s good to have a plan in place or your race experience will not be as fun.
There is a good chance that you might not want to ride home covered head to toe in colored chalk.
Trust me, you don’t want you car to be covered in colored dust.
Remember that a fun run is just that..FUN! So don’t take it too seriously. If you wanted a serious competitive race, you should have signed up for one. Just enjoy making memories by running through a rainbow of color in the dark.

If you are looking for a unique fun run experience, Tap n’ Run is for you.
You don’t even have to run. I do think having fun could be a requirement. Costumes are recommended and the people watching is absolutely fascinating because of them.
Our registration was located at the first authentic Hofbrauhaus in America located in Newport, KY. Our race started at 2pm, which let some of the participants get started with the race prep early.
We traveled across the pedistrian bridge to get to the start line which was techinically in Ohio.
Race participants run/walk/crawl a 4k. There were even some runners who opted for the timed chip but I would say the majority was not that serious about this race … at all.
My husband and I borrowed our superhero theme from our kids’ costume box a few hours prior. We were put to shame in the creativity department.
Our race bibs had four tabs that we gave at each stop for our beer stations along the course.
This is where my confession comes in. I don’t like the taste of beer. I took a taste of my sample and trashed the rest.
Drinking is optional and the race begins with everyone drinking to start the race. Our course took us through downtown Cincinnati and allowed for lots of great people watching.
The beer station stops also did supply water which I took full advantage of.
The creative costumes were so intersting to see along the course.
I’m happy to say I tapped into my inner superhero and slogged across the finish line without walking. It wasn’t fast but I was determined to run the whole race.
When we finished our race, we received a medal that doubles as a bottle opener, a larger cup of beer and a sandwich from Jimmy John’s.
Our race finished at The Banks in Cincinnati which offers a lot of great resturants and bars. A lot of runners continued on their afternoon at a few more venues and enjoyed a celebratory picture by the photo area.
This race has a bunch of extremes. Some people were still in it to win it and others would be lucky if they found and crossed the finish line. I really enjoyed an excuse to dress silly and people watch. A local charity also will benefit from the race too.

I’ve tried a mud run, a color run, a Halloween run, half marathon and a sprint triathlon along with a few regular 5k’s. So basically, I’m a sucker for a theme or a challenge. I got a new challenge to try the upcoming Tap n’ Run race in Cincinnati on Saturday, June 1st. I’m not even a big fan of beer but I do enjoy any excuse to run a fun run. The people watching alone at fun runs makes it worth it.
Here is more about the race from their organizers.
Tap ‘N’ Run is all about friends and teams, hilarious costumes and amusing group concepts, responsible entertainment and leave-the-kids-at-home-and-let-off-some steam. Tap ‘N’ Run is about drinking beer and having a ridiculously good time!
Tap ‘N’ Run 4K combines participants’ love of beer and running for a unique “one of a kind” run/walk race totaling 2.4 miles over the Purple People Bridge and by both Reds and Bangles stadiums. Participants are encouraged to dress in costumes and run with teams, friends and family of legal drinking age. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit the local charity, The Cincinnati Sport Corporation.
A lot of 5k races that I’ve been on reward you with a beer at the end. This one does that … and also switches it up the course by beer stations along the course. Each participant also receives a sweet finisher’s medal (that doubles as a bottle opener) and a race T Shirt.
You can join the adventure and save $5 by using the discount code”ADVENTURETAPS” when you register.

There are some experiences that you try just for the fun of it. The Color Me RAD race was one of those for me. It was a good excuse the visit family and friends when my friend shared a deal on Cincysavers.com for the race. After doing a mud run already, this seemed like a great contrast.
