5 Reasons Why I loved African Safari Wildlife Park

I absolutely LOVED our adventure with animals at African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio.

I might even say it’s made its way into my all-time top 10 adventures which is a pretty big deal because our family has shared a lot of incredible experiences.

There are a few reasons why I thought it was so great.

1. It’s an African Safari in …..Ohio!

If you live in the midwest, you are a long way from being on an African Safari.

This experience gives you a small taste of a unique animal adventure.

Giraffe African Safari Wildlife Park

2. Giraffe in my car!

Ok, so the giraffe wasn’t inside my car but you do get to see giraffes up close!

Carrots are also their candy of choice. It’s definitely worth purchasing extra food from the gift shop for a moment like this! ( You cannot bring outside food to feed the animals.)

Bison African Safari Wildlife Park

3. Bison slobber on my window

It’s hard to describe the feeling you have when your vehicle is surrounded by bison as big as your car.

Equal parts scary and equal parts exhilarating! If you start to feel too overwhelmed, you can honk your horn and flash your lights and the staff will get the animals away from your vehicle.

During your safari experience, you will receive lots of animal slobber on your vehicle and it is AWESOME! How often can you say that you need to clean the bison and giraffe slobber off your car??!!!

Remember the scene with the buck? We were staring at one right outside the window of our convertible.

5. Feeding the animals is extremely entertaining

They surround your vehicle hoping that you will share your carrots or pellets with them. They are messy eaters and don’t always share well with each other.

Pro tip: squeeze your cup together toward the bottom to the cup to help keep the cup from tipping over or all of your lettuce from falling out.

You can enjoy unlimited drive thru the safari during your visit. There is also a walk-thru safari where you can enjoy a zoo-like setting that is laid back.

There is also a playground, plenty of picnic tables, concessions, and a gift shop.

Our strategy during our visit was to visit the drive-thru safari first, then the walk-thru safari, followed by the drive-thru safari one last time.

We loved our visit that day and our family made memories together that will last a lifetime.

One price gets it all – Drive-Thru & Walk-Thru (during summer & extended dates includes Camel Rides, Pig Races, and Educational Animal Shows).

Check the African Safari Wildlife Park website for more information before your visit.

Where is African Safari Wildlife Park Located?

African Safari Wildlife Park is located at 267 S Lightner Road, Port Clinton OH 43452

Disclosure: I was given complimentary passes for view purposes. All opinions are my own.

We have a drive through safari here in Florida as well. It’s a great way for the kids to see the animals up close and feed them. I especially like the convenience of being in your own vehicle. Like you said, the downside is the mess they leave on the car and sometimes inside. Thanks for sharing and being part of the #WeekendWanderlust this week.

Hey Nedra, thanks for sharing this great post at #WeekendWanderlust! It must be a special experience to interact with animals so closely 🙂 It definitely makes a great family outdoor adventure.
