A visit to the Kentucky Horse Park is a must when you visit Lexington.
Kentucky is known as the “Horse Capital of the World.”
The Kentucky Horse Park creates an appreciation, education, and admiration for these beautiful creatures.
The park is set on 1,200 acres of beautiful rolling hills and your biggest challenge will be deciding what area to visit first.
We decided to check out the horse jumping competition first.
The weekend of our visit was a Pyramid Society Egyptian Arabian Event. The Kentucky Horse Park hosts national and international competitions throughout the year.
I was really excited to watch this competition because this has been on my list to see.
The Kids’ Barn is filled with lots of activities for kids.
There are a lot of interactive displays along with education pieces throughout the barn.
On the outside of the Kids’ Barn, my kids got to try their fence jumping skills.
The Hall of Champions was probably one of our favorite parts of our experience.
Hall of Champions
You get to see race horses that are living legends. The presentation showed you brief clips of the horses racing along with the backstory of each horse.
Our favorite horse that we got to see was “Cigar” who won 16 consecutive races. This horse was an incredible race horse that beat all of the odds and didn’t even begin racing until after his 3 year old year due to an injury.
The Horse Park has several barns that you can walk through that give you an up-close look at the horses and also equipment that has been used for generations.
Horse Shows at the Kentucky Horse Park
While visiting at the Horse Park, you can also enjoy a horse show. Our visit featured a group that did a fantastic job performing stunts while riding the horses.
