One of our favorite parts of visiting an area that we’ve never been to before is the local food.
I’m sharing 5 restaurants in the area near Bowling Green, Kentucky that each has their own distinct charm and great food.
1. Boyce General Store
10551 Woodburn Allen Springs Road, Alvaton, KY (Located less than 20 minutes from Bowling Green)
Stop in for nostalgia and a delicious mini pie at a General Store that dates back to the 1860s.
Keep current on upcoming events and delicious menu items from their Facebook page.
Make sure that you try the mini pies!
If you are debating on which mini pie to try, I suggest trying splitting two mini pies with a friend to get the best of both worlds.
2. Chaney’s Dairy Barn
9191 Nashville Rd, Bowling Green, KY
You can meet the cows responsible for your delicious homemade ice cream made on the premises.
Kids will enjoy the large playground area to burn off lots of energy.
Adults might even want to try out the slide too.
There is also a restaurant, gift shop, and farm tours available from April -October.
3. Lost River Pizza Company
2440 Nashville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101
Located near the popular tourist attraction Lost River Cave, the award-winning pizza here is incredible!
I highly recommend for you to try the bread twists and the Award-Winning Wild Boar Pizza.
Made with the two topping version Wild Boar, with O’Daniel Farms’ Country Sausage and their “in-house” Pickled Banana Peppers.
Another great option is the regular Wild Boar. Made with Country Sausage, Italian Sausage, Bacon, Smoked Ham, Caramelized Onions, and Banana Peppers.
Gluten-Free Crust is available upon request.
4. Montana Grille
1740 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY
One word- Firebread!
The Firebread here is AMAZING!
The atmosphere is cozy with a lodge feel and our family enjoyed everything that we ordered.
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the menu options.
5. Double Dogs Chow House
1780 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY
This restaurant ranked #56 Travel Channel’s “101 More Amazing Places to Chowdown.” and has a fun dog theme.
Kids Meals even come in a dog dish!
This restaurant has a fun atmosphere and great classic American cuisine.

Hey no 6 Would be India Oven at 1755 Scottsville Rd. Always amazing! Yum!!
The fried green tomato po boy at Tea Bayou is AMAZING! Followed with an order of beignets! Yum!
Where is it located?
I tried Wild Eggs in Louisville in December. I agree, their food is great!
I’d also try Wild Eggs. It’s a small chain they have it here, Lexington and Louisville but it’s amazing food.
They have one main burger (the home cafe burger) every week and then they have 3 different others every week. Combinations you wouldn’t think go on a burger do and it’s delicious.
That’s what I was saying 🙂
Tea bayou also has ahhhhh-mazing gumbo, and another sandwich I can’t remember the name. It has an olive pesto or something on it. Whoaaaa awesome.
Another must visit place is Teresa’s Restaurant on Gordon Avenue. It’s an absolutely delicious southern-fried breakfast/lunch diner 🙂
Ok I’m intrigued by the Hot Brown Burger. That sounds really good!
My husband and I love Tea Bayou. We usually share a Hot Brown burger when we go. I also love their red beans and rice soup. And the list of teas available is awesome! If you like Bergamot and lavender, try an iced Lady Grey.
Spillway Bar and Grill..the BEST wings!
I am almost always a sucker for their pizzas. They come up with the most amazing combinations. I’m never disappointed, and usually wowed.
Please do! It’s the best farm-to-table in the area. Their flavor combinations are unexpected and amazing.
I TOTALLY agree. And add Tea Bayou!
Thanks for sharing! What do you recommend at ConCons?
I live here and have never even heard of Home Cafe (whoops). Montana Grille & Double Dogs, along with Rafferty’s are all owned by the same man – Dan Davis. Great places to eat! Next time you’re in the area, check out Con-Cons on Russellville Road for home-cooked country food. She is open Mon-Sat 6a-2p. Great little place. The Chaney’s are wonderful people and their business/farm/restaurant is a family favorite for is and just about everyone we know! 🙂
That’s good information! Is there a specific burger that they are known for?
Home Cafe has Burger NIGHT on Wednesdays. If you go for lunch, you’ll be too early. And if you don’t get there early for dinner, you’ll be too late. They sell out. It’s that good.
What do you recommend there?
Agreed
Definitely try Tea Bayou and 440 Main, both are downtown on the square. I would also suggest Novo Dolce and Riley’s Bakery. I’m personally surprised that Double Dogs made the cut; it’s a cute concept, but I think the food is very average.
There is only one Montana Grill and the owner lives here. Double Dogs is also locally owned by Dan Davis and since it’s inception he has opened several other Double Dogs but neither of these restaurants are Franchises in Bowling Green. DAN DAVIS donates thousands and thousands of $$ to local charities including the Bowling Green/Warren co. Humane society!!
Montana grille and double dogs are not franchises. I love this list! The other places that people mentioned sound great as well and I will definately try them!
For breakfast,or anytime you are just craving a donut, you can’t beat The Great American Donut Shop! Best part is… They’re open 24/7!
Is ^^^ sorry
You can’t go wrong with anything you order from 440. Their food so Louisiana inspired and delicious!!!
Don’t forget Tea Bayou on the square…delicious!!
home is great! Wednesday is burger day at home.. try to catch them then! Griffs Deli is great as well! I miss there chicken salad melt! Judys and cambridge are also very yummy.. good home style food! 440 is fantastic but a much nicer dinning experience!
What would you recommend from there?
That is absolutely true!! I think Home Cafe is THE best place in Bowling Green!!
I’ll have to check it out the next time that I visit. What do you recommend there?
No place is better than 440/ Mickey’s on Main!!! Best food in B.G.
Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll need to check those out next time I’m in town.
I’ll have to check that one out the next time I’m in town.
Double Dogs and Montana Grill are franchises and seen elsewhere around the country. For good local flavor add Judy’s Castle and Cambridge a Market. Both of those are local and unique with owners on site.
Been to all of these places . All are great,
Any “must visit” list for Bowling Green without Home Cafe on the list is just plain wrong.
