Christmas at the Galt House

The Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky is known for their over the top Christmas decorations. They have even been featured on the Travel Channel and Christmas at the Galt House has become an annual tradition for many families.

We started our “Christmas at the Galt House” visit with the KaLightoscope Attraction. Chinese artisans from Zigong,China handcrafted the beautiful interactive luminaries.

The colors were so beautiful!

The Galt House Gingerbread House was HUGE! It also smelled REALLY good! My kids kept commenting about how tempted they were to take a bite because of the yummy smell.

There was also a display of incredible award winning Gingerbread Houses.

The Galt Hotel has an interactive green screen experience where guests can pretend to ride in Santa’s Sleigh which rides over several landmarks in Louisville. We picked out fun props for our big debut. After we filmed our video, it was emailed to us so that we could share the experience with others through social media.

Younger girls will be excited to meet the Snow Fairy Princess in her castle.

Kids can take a ride on the Peppermint Express. My younger son liked ringing the bell so much that he wanted to stay on for another turn.

Near the train area, you can see three dozen restored animated characters that were from the Old Stewart’s Department Store. There is so much detail in each scene!

The Galt House Hotel also has several different package options for guests who stay overnight that include admission and various activities. We stayed in one of their suites that offered a nice view and plenty of space for our family. I also really liked that you could close off the doors from the bedrooms to the living area. Our suite also had a sleeper sofa for additional guests. The mini fridge was also a nice amenity.

Also, its good to have destinations in mind before leaving the house — I learned this the hard way. There are streets where most of the neighbours get together and put on a truly spectacular display of lights. These are the destinations. I highlight three of these areas below.
