Free in Lexington ~ Watch Keeneland Morning Workouts

On a recent trip to Lexington, Kentucky, we took advantage of the opportunity to watch the morning practice runs at Keeneland.

Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, KY

There is no admission fee for watching during morning training hours. The track is open year round to the public and the training takes place from 6 am until 10am.  I would recommend coming earlier than 9am.

This tourist attraction has put horse racing in the hearts of generations of spectators.

Catching an early morning practice lets you see the horses and their caretakers upclose. They are the unsung heroes who are with the horses everyday.

You also get to see the horses race. There is something about being able to hear the ground shake as the horses race by that makes you a believer.

The backdrop of Keeneland is also gorgeous.

Winning jockeys at Keeneland each have their colors painted on a jockey statue for one year.

We had to take a picture of Dan with “Wise Dan.”

I haven’t been to an official race at Keeneland yet but it is definitely on my list!

While at Keeneland, you can also eat breakfast at the TRACK KITCHEN which is open year-round where you could end up dining next to a jockey or owner.

During the racing season in April and October, there is also a special program on Saturday mornings called BREAKFAST WITH THE WORKS.

Keeneland also offers self guided walking tours with a printable pdf map that you can get online.

Keeneland is located at 4201 Versailles Rd, Lexington, KY 40510

You can find out more about Keeneland from their website.
