The boys and I met a few relatives for dinner who live in the Ft. Wayne area on our way back from our road trip. She suggested that we try Ft. Wayne’s Famous Coney Island. It has been serving coneys for 100 years and has been operated by the same family since 1916! This place is a dining tradition for generations to experience. I was told that Sunday crowds can even be lined up outside around the corner.
The inside of this dinner has not changed much in its years of operation. The decor showcases older images of Ft. Wayne, old signs and images of the restaurant throughout the years with the owners.
The menu is simple. Cheese coneys, baked beans, chips, and drinks. As far as drinks go, you can get a bottle of coke, cans of various soft drinks or fountain drinks. I opted for a bottle of Coke.
The coneys come on a steamed bun with onions, chili and mustard. I ate two coneys but my kids liked them so much that they ate three each!
The prices are extremely affordable. A coney cost $1.35 and a cheeseburger is $2.25.
I was told that they make baked beans in house. They were sweet and thick but really good. I’m glad I tried them.
Ft. Waynes Famous Coney Island is located at 131 W Main St Fort Wayne, IN 46802. You can connect with them on their website or on facebook.
I am a sucker for hot dogs or any kind of wurst. This sounds delicious! Pure beef, I take it?
