Highlights from Lumenocity 2014 in Cincinnati

Lumenocity 2014 at Washington Park in Cincinnati, OH

Lumenocity has been a high demand/low ticket event that everyone has been talking about this summer. Last year’s FREE event was such a success that the demand of tickets requested by the public could not be met and had to result in a lottery drawing. I was fortunate enough to win the ticket lottery for the rehearsal of Lumenocity on Thursday night.

The big difference was that the rehearsal could have pauses or do overs. I didn’t really care because I was just really excited to be there. My friend and I arrived at Washington Park at 6 for the 6:30 gate opening and there were lines in place for eager guests ready to claim a spot on the lawn. Once we were inside, the best spots were filled within 15 minutes.

With our spots secure, we grabbed a wristband and went to checkout 10 week old Gomez Salsa. It was just a few streets over, located on 107 E 12th St. Several of my food blogger friends has already been raving about it and I thought it was the perfect opportunity for carry out.

Carry out is your only option and we went with the staff recommendation of the Ninja Turtle which is the combination of fried rice, teriyaki chicken, lettuce, cheese and your salsa of your choice.

The Ninja Turtle was absolutely AMAZING! It was also very filling but I felt that I needed to savor every morsel of flavor and not waste any of it.

The first half of Lumenocity featured dancers from the Cincinnati Ballet, the May Festival Chorus, members from the Cincinnati Opera and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

This was the biggest rehearsal audience that the CSO Pops has ever had with several thousand in attendance.

My favorite part of the evening began as it got darker. That’s when the sounds of the symphony and the creative images on Music Hall were brought to life.

The second half featured the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Louis Langree.

This post just gives you a small sample of how incredible this event really was. Cincinnati really set the bar with Lumenocity. This event celebrates the arts and the iconic Music Hall that make Cincinnati so special. I hope that they will open up Lumenocity to two weekends next year.

You can find out more about Lumenocity from their website.
