I joined several of my girlfriends from college on an unforgettable girlfriend getaway in Sandusky. You might not think of Sandusky as a typical destination for a weekend away but we found so many ways to take our adventures to the extreme with a good mix of downtime in between. The Shores and Islands region has so much to offer visitors.
The Shores and Islands Region has a lot to offer when it comes to things to do. Most people associate Cedar Point Amusement Park with Sandusky but the area also offers fun all year round.
The hardest choice you will have to make when you step into Kalahari Indoor Waterpark is deciding what area of the waterpark to go to first.
I’ve stayed both onsite and offsite when I’ve visited Cedar Point Amusement Park over the years. I have to say that I feel like staying onsite does really make a difference.
During our visit to the Sandusky area, we had perfect weather for a snowcation. The snow was falling down slowly and it felt like we were walking around inside a snow globe.
There are some situations that you have to take advantage of in that moment, otherwise you could miss out on them forever.
How many times do we see something and think that we will get back to it only to discover that we forgot about it or we no longer have time to do it or that the moment is no longer there.
I was faced with one of those moments on my way to Sandusky, Ohio. I was driving across the bridge from Northern Kentucky into Cincinnati, Ohio and I noticed how incredible the Ohio River looked frozen over. I was on my way out of town and I knew that there was a good chance that this scene would not be waiting for me when I returned so I decided to quickly deviate my route and take a few minutes to get a few shots of this incredible wonder.
I grew up in the area and this is not a scene that I can recall many times in my lifetime.
I still arrived at my destination on time….but first I had to stop for one more frozen view. This time it was to see 98% frozen Lake Erie in the backyard of Sawmill Creek Resort.
Hope you get to take a little time to enjoy the view where you are.
An Airboat ride has been on my adventure list for a while. I always pictured my 1st airboat ride going through the Everglades. Little did I know that my 1st airboat ride would be on one of the Great Lakes, specifically Lake Erie. I first found out about Air1Airboats during a media trip to Sandusky. I was immediately intrigued because I knew that I would be back in the area a few months later.
During my visit with Lake Erie Shores and Islands, we spent an evening exploring Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve. We were staying next door at Sawmill Creek Resort that evening, which is a nice walk or short drive from the preserve.
During our media trip with Lake Erie Shores and Islands we got to hang out with brothers, Chad and Ryan Whaley from Green Door Mediaworks. They work as PR guys during the day and also worked together to create a speakeasy bar in Sandusky at night. They took our group to try a few of their speciality drinks on a night that the bar was closed to the public.
