Ever wondered what it would be like to see million dollar horses up close ….and tour million dollar stables?
A Unique Horse Farm Tour from the Kentucky Horse Park will give you this once in a lifetime opportunity.
The tour starts at the Kentucky Horse Park and then takes you to several farms and Keeneland Race Track.
The first farm that we visited was Katie Rich Farm, which was named after two children.
The stables are beautiful and so are the horses. These horses are anything but common.
We also got to observe the foals with their moms.
After our visit to Katie Rich, we made a quick stop at to try out some food from Wallace Station that was featured on Diners, drive- ins and dives before our next farm.
We tried the corn on the cob cookie that reminded me of the taste of Cap’n crunch cereal.
The tour allows you see horses up close that could be gracing some of the biggest races in the country in the next few years.
Our last stop on the tour was Keeneland. We had just visited Keeneland that morning to watch the horses early morning practice.
We quickly learned that horses like peppermints and our guide, Shawn Washington, had an ample supply of them.
That made us AND the horses very happy!
We also learned that the race horses each have a tattoo in their mouths that is inspected before each race.
They also go through quite a few horseshoes.
The stables have a positive atmosphere so you have to leave colorful language at home. Keeneland is a classy place.
The day of our tour happened to be the day of the Belmont Stakes.
We got to take a few extra minutes and watch the race while we were at Keeneland.…and since no one was in the suite section, we decided to try the good seats.
