My boys and I were excited to try out the new ziplines at the Creation Museum. The Screaming Raptor Zipline Canopy Tour is the largest canopy tour in the Midwest.
There are currently 24 ziplines and 10 Sky Bridges. I realize that the sign says 20 but they have added even more since their opening. To the left is the tower that we climbed for our first zipline across the lake.
Our tour started with safety instructions and demonstrations on how to use the equipment.
This newer style of carabiner makes it possible for you to always be roped in as you transition up the stairs before your send-off.
Our guide Mateo, made sure that we felt comfortable with using the equipment and gave a demo of how to slow down. You are given gloves and your left-hand rests on the top and your right hand is used as your brake hand.
We climbed the tower for our 1st zip line of the day which took us across the lake.
The boys and I had gone ziplining before and they decided that they wanted me to go first.
They came over in birth order from oldest to youngest next. My youngest son was a little nervous at first but quickly faced his fear and turned it into a smile.
Each of the ziplines has a name and several of the towers share more about the animal that it was named after.
The course has a good variety of heights and lengths with several Sky bridges in between.
We loved walking across the Sky Bridges. We even tried to test our balancing skills by trying not to hold on the guide rope while crossing.
The whole experience is extremely safe and you are always harnessed in.
Walk the Bridges
The bridges were even more fun when we bounced on them.
Our final zipline of the day was this 1700 foot long zip that also happens to be the longest dual racing zip lines in the region.
We had our guide film the experience because I trusted him not to drop my phone.
By that time, the kids were pros and didn’t show the slightest hesitation for their final zip.
More Things to Do at the Creation Museum
There is also an aerial challenge course with over 20 obstacles that include small ziplines.
The Creation Museum also has a petting zoo that you can visit that hosts a variety of animals including a Zonkey, Zorse, wallabies, and camels.
We had a great time on our Screaming Raptor Zipline Canopy Tour. We created memories that day that will last a lifetime.
