The first time that I saw the LEGO artwork sculpture “Yellow” by Nathan Sawaya was at Art Prize a few years ago in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I’ve been a fan ever since.
So what makes the Art of the Brick Exhibit unique?
1.This is the World’s Largest Display of LEGO art. There are over 100 sculptures used exclusively with LEGO bricks.
2.There are reproductions of famous masterpieces.
We spotted several replicas of prints that we have in our home by Van Gogh.
3. You will gain more respect for the artist Nathan Sawaya as you explore the exhibit. You will see a short film at the beginning that shares how Nathan left his career as a lawyer to pursue what made him happy which was art. I’m so glad that he did because his LEGO art is a gift.
4. Each room of the exhibit has a WOW factor! It’s hard to pick a favorite when you see how diverse Nathan’s skills are. It’s incredible to think of the foresight and planning that went into creating each sculpture.
There are between 15,000 -25,000 LEGO bricks used in the human form sculptures that take 2-4 weeks to create.
5. There is a 20 ft long T-Rex Dinosaur made of LEGO bricks!
6. The collaboration pieces with photographer Dean West are a creative blend of LEGO art, photography, and sculptures by Nathan Sawaya.
7. Kids and adults can create their own LEGO art at the end of the exhibit and go through a creative LEGO scan as they exit.
8. The Art of Brick Exhibit will inspire you and stretch your imagination for what is possible when you create.
9. This is exhibit is FUN!
