It seems like my health is all or nothing. I’m either in the routine of fitness or I’m falling off the fitness wagon. I’ve had fitness seasons where exercising was such a part of my life that it was just like brushing my teeth each day. I even had enough willpower in years past to run a half marathon and also a sprint triathlon. Keep in mind that my goal was to FINISH not to be FAST.
I’ve allowed my health to noticeably decrease over the past year as my work obligations have increased. What’s even more ironic is that I work a few REALLY early hours at a gym for the discount and then I don’t have the energy to go back to use it in the evening. I’ve been in a state of stretchy pants for OVER a year now and things have to change. That’s where a recent purchase at Dick’s Sporting Goods came in.
I usually love to look at the clothes when I’m at Dick’s Sporting Goods but I wanted new fitness clothes to be used as a reward for reaching some of my fitness goals. I personally needed something that would keep me accountable. That’s where my fitbit purchase came in. My urgency to regain a healthier fitness lifestyle became even more apparent during a family visit to an indoor waterpark after several back to back months of holidays eating. I don’t know many adults who would want to wear a swimsuit immediately after the holidays but the swimsuit DOESN’T lie and my stretchy pants DID! Enough is enough!
I needed to regain a vision for my fitness. So I created a vision board with inspirational quotes and images and put my fitbit into action.
So how has the fitbit helped?
I’ve already noticed several ways that the Fitbit is helping to motivate me to get back to a healthy lifestyle.
- You can set a daily goal and see the results of your progress in real time. I use the fitbit Flex along with the fitbit app on my smartphone to track my steps each day.
- It tracks your sleep. I have not made sleep a priority and the app is showing me how many hours I’m sleeping and also how restless I am. You can just fall asleep with the fitbit on your wrist or you can manually set sleep mode by tapping your Flex for 1-2 seconds when you go to bed. It will vibrate and show two lights to inform you that sleep mode has started. The Manual mode can also help monitor how long it takes you to fall asleep. When you wake up, tap it again for 1-2 seconds until it vibrates and you will see all 5 of the lights on the band light up.
- You can challenge your friends. I love the competitive aspect that lets me see how my friends are doing and also drives me to keep up and try to crush the competition…in the nicest way possible of course.
- It gives you accountability. I’ve found the accountability part to be extremely motivating. I see my current weight, my goal, my steps, and calories burned each time I look at the fitbit app. I’m more motivated to move by making sure that I hit my goal. Each day that I reach my goal for steps is like getting a gold star. I also find out what fitness activities are helping me maximize my time. I discovered that I really enjoy racquetball while on vacation and I want to play it more often. I also have a few other fitness adventures that I want to cross off my list this year.
Here are few tips for how to install and remove your Fitbit battery.
A great time to recharge your fitbit is while you are in the shower.
I hope that my story helps encourage you to set some new health goals too. The important thing is to find what works for you. Let’s do this! I’m putting this out there and you are welcome to join me in the challenge.
