Why this West Michigan Dad Wants You to Wear Plaid

A few years ago in December, I noticed our friend, Tim Ruff, getting pretty passionate about plaid on his Instagram account.

That passion has continued to grow into what Tim calls “Plaidvent.” I thought that it would be fun for Tim to share more about it so that you can join in on the fun too.

What is Plaidvent?

Plaidvent is a season of pure joy and plaid. Some would argue that it is more than a season1f603?..

Where did the idea come from?

It came to me one day when I had a lot of time on my hands. It also helps me with seasonal depression in Michigan to see friends and family enjoy in the fun…so of course, plaidvent was born.

How long does it last?

It is the whole month of December.

How long has Plaidvent been around?

This is the third year of plaidvent.

What is Plaidgiving?

This year all plaidgiving donations will go to HQ – a Runaway and homeless youth drop in center located in Grand Rapids, Michigan .

HQ is a drop-in center for youth ages 14 thru 24 who are experiencing homelessness, runaway or whose housing is unsafe or unstable.

HQ was created to help young people find a place to rest, obtain resources and connections, and receive support thru professional skill building. HQ exists as a transformative space where everyone is included and diversity is celebrated. You are the expert of your own life, and at HQ we want to encourage you to step into self-discovery without any strings attached.

How can someone join in on the fun and where can we find you on social media?

You can join the fun by following me @plaidvent and @truff and take pics of your every day with plaid or even plaid accessories and hash tagging plaidvent. #plaidvent Pretty simple and it puts a smile on your face! That is the best part.

Thanks again to Tim for sharing his love of plaid and giving back.

You can also find fun plaidvent merchandise and donate to plaidsgiving on the Plaidvent website.
