When I visit a destination for the first time, I’m always on the lookout for great restaurants and local flavors.
I’m sharing the best places to eat that you will want to add to your list during your visit to Mohican State Park or a stay at The Mohicans treehouse and cabin rentals in Ohio.
These are wonderful options for your next visit.
Stock Up on Snacks and More at Mohican Country Market
1014 S Market St., Loudonville, OH
Located 14 minutes from The Mohicans
This is a wonderful stop for homemade pastries, “creme sticks”, pies, meats, cheeses, fruits, and more.
Located across the street from Mohican Adventures, Mohican Country Market is a small grocery store that you will want to stop at.
Mohican Country Market is a great stop for breakfast, snacks, or lunch options. There is a small seating area for guests who want to dine inside to eat their sandwiches or pastries.
You can also buy a giant donut that’s bigger than your head!
The prices are really reasonable. You can stock up on snacks before a day canoeing on the water or a visit to Mohican State Park. It’s also a great resource if you need to purchase more supplies for a meal during your treehouse or cabin stay.
I highly recommend trying the “Mr. Spicy” and their burger with a pretzel bun. My friend and I ordered both and then split each sandwich so that we could try each one.
Plan on being at the Mohican Market for a while because there is a lot to see throughout the store. You will probably want a cart for the extra goodies and treats you will want to bring home too.
Dine in Downtown Loudonville at Black Fork Bistro
153 W. Main St., Loudonville, OH
Located 14 minutes from The Mohicans
My friend and I stopped here one evening for dinner during our stay. We enjoyed their cheese curds as an appetizer. We split the shrimp and grits, that had a good kick, and tried their “Brussels” flatbread pizza too.
For drinks there are lots of craft beer and wine options. I enjoyed trying the Wild Ohio Brewing black cherry barrel tea beer for the first time.
Black Fork Bistro also has gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan menu options available.
A Sweet Treat at Stela’s Ice Cream Shoppe & Coffee House
211 W Main St, Loudonville, OH
Located 14 minutes from The Mohicans
After a long day of hiking or exploring, Stela’s Ice Cream Shoppe & Coffee House is a must!
The inside of the ice cream shop has old pictures of Loudonville and memorabilia on the walls. Stela’s Special affogato was the PERFECT pick me up after a day on the hiking trails. Espresso + coffee ice cream is a beautiful thing!
Bromfield’s Dining Room at The Mohican Lodge & Conference Center
1098 Ashland County Rd. 3006, Perrysville, OH
Located 29 minutes from The Mohicans
I can’t speak for the food because I didn’t have enough time to eat there, but the views from the patio at Bromfield’s Dining Room at The Mohican Lodge are hard to beat!
This is a nice option if you are exploring the Mohican State Park nearby and it’s not far from Pleasant Hill Dam.
I know that State Park Lodges can sometimes be hit or miss on food but you can’t go wrong with a drink here either way.
Dine at Landoll’s Mohican Castle
Located 13 minutes from The Mohicans
The Copper Mug Bar & Grille is a fine dining restaurant in a casual environment.
Guests staying onsite or visiting for a meal have dining options for breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner. They also have a kids’ menu available.
There are also special dining events including High Tea and Brunch with Santa.
Dine Inside a Train at Buckeye Express Diner
810 OH-97, Bellville, OH
Located 41 minutes away from The Mohicans
My friend and I discovered this gem on the way home from a “mom-cation” at The Little Red Treehouse at The Mohicans. Depending on where you are traveling from you may want to check this restaurant out on your way to or from a stay at The Mohicans.
We noticed the train with the words “diner” from the road and out of curiosity had to pull over to check it out.
My husband is a HUGE University of Michigan fan so we won’t tell him that I went to an Ohio State University themed restaurant.
This is still a great stop for non-OSU fans and train lovers if you can get past your non-OSU college allegiance.
My friend and I once again ordered two different menu items so that we can split them and try more things.
There were a lot of great options on the menu to choose from so it was hard to narrow it down. We decided to try two of the most popular menu items.
I can vouch that the “Woody Burger” and “Brutus Philly Beef” were both FANTASTIC!
I highly recommend trying BOTH the regular fresh-cut fries and the sweet potato fries. The sauce for the sweet potato fries also doubles as dessert.
Seriously, this was probably my favorite meal of the trip.
We chose to eat outside because the dining areas in the train cars were a little too warm for us that day.
Kids will love the sections both inside and the small play area outside with plenty of seating nearby.
