You Can Tour the A Christmas Story Home Year Round

Visitors don’t have to wait until the holidays to visit the A Christmas Story House.

The A Christmas Story House resides in a neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio and tours are available year-round.

A Christmas Story Fun Facts:

  • The “A Christmas Story” movie is based on Jean Shepherd’s book “In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash.”
  • The author grew up in Hammond, Indiana which was the inspiration for the town in the movie.
  • Both Ralphie and the author lived on Cleveland Street and attended G. Harding Elementary School.
  • Soap flakes and firefighter foam were used to make some of the snow for the scenes with the kids and bullies.
  • A hidden suction tube was used inside the flagpole so that Flick wasn’t injured during the scene where his tongue sticks to the flagpole.
  • 20 cities were scouted for filming locations of the movie.
  • Ralphie’s dad was almost played by Jack Nicholson but the low-budget film couldn’t afford his salary.
  • Peter Billingsley was the very first child actor to audition for the role of Ralphie. Peter got the part over thousands of other child actors who auditioned.
  • Exterior scenes of the A Christmas Story house were filmed in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Interior scenes of the A Christmas Story home were filmed in Canada.
  • The department store scenes were filmed in the Higbee building located in downtown Cleveland.
  • During the filming, all 3 of the leg lamps made for the movie were broken on set.
  • “The Wonder Years” television show was inspired by “A Christmas Story.”
  • Peter Billingsley kept a few props from the movie (the Red Ryder BB gun and the pink suit)
  • The narrator of A Christmas Story was author Jean Shepherd.

You can spend the night in A Christmas Story House or The Bumpus House. There are 3 overnight accommodations for guests to choose from.

No pets are allowed for overnight guests.

Reservations for Overnight Stays

A Christmas Story House is open year-round to the public for tours and even has overnight stays.

Sleep in A Christmas Story House

Overnight guests sleep in the private third-floor loft during their stay and can use the whole house from an hour after closing – 9am the following day.

A Christmas Story House sleeps 6 guests. (queen bed, queen sofa sleep, and Ralph and Randy’s twin beds.

This rental includes a free tour of A Christmas Story House & Museum.

The Bumpus House – located to the left of A Christmas Story House

  • The “Hound Dog Haven” suite on the first floor can accommodate up to 4 guests per night.
  • “Stolen Turkey” suite on the second and third floors, can accommodate up to 6 guests per night.

Where Do You Park for the A Christmas Story House?

There are two free parking lots along with free street parking on the streets in front of the A Christmas Story House.

The first parking lot is left of A Christmas Story House and the second parking lot is to the right of the gift shop.
