Bircus is a circus brewery in Kentucky that is definitely one of a kind!
A fusion of the love of the circus and beer, Bircus Brewing Company is a gimmick in the BEST kind of way!
I LOVE a gimmick because it makes something ordinary even more creative and interesting. So of course the idea of a beer circus venue is super intriguing.
After taking several circus skill classes, I have an even greater appreciation and respect for the difficulty level and artform by the performers.
Circus History in Ludlow, KY
The location for Bircus in Ludlow, Kentucky also has a circus history that dates back between 1895-1918.
Circus performers from around the world entertained up to 50,000 people a day in the former amusement park in the Ludlow Lagoon.
It’s serendipitous that the comeback of the circus to the city of Ludlow was thanks to Paul Miller, a former clown for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Paul is proving that the circus isn’t completely dead, with Circus Mojo and Bircus (pronounced Beercus) Brewing Company.

It’s highly recommended that you make ticket reservations online on the Bircus website.
You don’t want to bring your family to see the circus…only to discover that it’s already sold out. Don’t be that parent.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
(*There is also an online service fee from Eventbrite added to each ticket)
Bircus is currently limiting its occupancy to 100 patrons for everyone’s safety. They require masks for entry and to and from tables.
When you arrive, you will be assigned a table number for your party.
There is plenty of room to spread out comfortably in the 9000 square foot venue.
There are a range of menu options to choose from during your visit including artisan wood-fired pizza and concession snacks.
Animal crackers and popcorn felt like an appropriate snack for our circus themed adventure.
Just a heads up, Bircus also has a cotton candy machine. You might want to bring some baby wipes for sticky fingers if you have young kids.
Make sure that you try their homemade ginger ale while you are there. It’s perfect for kids and adults who want a non-alcoholic option.
Craft Beer at the Circus Bar
There is an assortment of craft beer options for a variety of beer preferences including stouts, lagers, IPAs, ales, Pilsners, and sours.
Circus Mojo Matinee Performance
The circus performance matinee is a good mix of audience participation, clown antics for little kids, and impressive circus skills.
A few of the highlights by performers included balancing on a rola-bola, trapeze, aerial silks, a fire-breather, juggling, and balancing a giant ladder on a performer’s face.
Each circus matinee performance is supposed to be a little different to give you another excuse to come back again.
Circus Workshop at Bircus Brewing Company
The circus workshop at Bircus gives you the opportunity to try out some basic circus skills that you can build on.
We were taught how to do the spinning plates, which are harder than they look.
We also learned how to do hat tricks and balancing with plastic Bircus tall hats.
The spinning plates were limited to two per table as were the hats due to backorder.
If you have a few kids at your table they will need to rotate on the sharing.
After the workshop, you can keep the hat in case you want to practice more of your circus skills at home.
The whole experience lasts about an hour and a half.
