I love any excuse to visit Red River Gorge so when our family was invited to stay at Cliffview Resort located near the Red River Gorge in Eastern Kentucky it was a no brainer.
My previous experience at Cliffview Resort was from a stay at the lodge 20+ years during our first year of marriage so I was excited to see what had changed and to also bring our boys with us this time.
One of the first things that you will notice about the property is that you truly feel like you get away…but in the best kind of way because the location is still convenient to other area attractions including Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge.
What I love about a visit to the Gorge is just how it helps us slow down and connect with nature.
We were off to a good start when we noticed this mama deer and her baby a few times on our drive back to Cliff View Lodge.

Inside a Guest Room at the Lodge at Cliffview Resort
Our room was one of the 15 rooms available at the Lodge with two (2) queen-size beds and a private bathroom. There is one King Suite with a king-size bed and a queen-sized futon.
I loved spending time on the porch swing of the giant back deck outside of my room. It was so peaceful to look out at the nature around me while enjoying my coffee before everyone else in my family woke up.
It was also really nice to slow down and just sit on the swings and talk with views of the moon.
Breakfast at the Lodge at Cliffview Resort
Included with your stay at the lodge, you will find a nice selection for their continental breakfast.
There is a little bit of something for everyone which should make even the pickiest of eaters happy.
Things to Do at Cliffview Resort
Go Fishing Onsite
Fishing is something that is talked about often in our family but for whatever reasons, we don’t do it very often.
Cliffview Resort took away all the excuses. We had nothing but time…. and nowhere that we had to go allowing us to slow down and enjoy the simple things.
The fishing at Cliffview Resort is catch and release and the resort has fishing poles for guests to use along with the live bait. You also don’t need a fishing license if you are only fishing on property.
The boys loved it. In fact, they went fishing several times during our stay which was really nice.
Play Games Together
Cliffview Resort has outdoor and indoor games available for guests to use during their stay. We enjoyed challenging each other to a few games of cornhole and ladder ball.
You’ll also find an assortment of boards games and DVDs for guest to use. There are plenty of tables near the kitchen and on the porch if you want to gather with your group to play cards or make some new friends.
Sit by the Campfire
There is a firepit with some seating that’s available for guests to use during their stay if you want to roast marshmallows or relax by the fire.
Zipline at Cliffview Resort
Zipline Across The Gorge that you can see from The Lodge at Cliffview Resort. Red River Gorge Zipline is located on property at Cliffview Resort which means that you don’t have to travel far for an awesome adventure. There is no age limit to zipline but you must weigh between 70 and 250 lbs.
The course takes you on 5 ziplines through Red River Gorge and it’s recommended that you make reservations in advance if you have a specific day and time in mind.
We were scheduled to zipline on the last day of our visit but a storm blew in that delayed our tour. We are definitely looking forward to coming back at another time to cross that adventure off our list.
Where you can swim at Red River Gorge
Where to swim at Cliffview Resort
Cliffview Resort does not have a swimming pool but they do have a pond on-site that you can swim in.
A word of caution if you are fishing, make sure that you check your pockets before you sit down…..my son and husband ended up swimming in search of something that fell out of his pocket. They didn’t find it, but they did find several cell phones from previous guests in the water.

Go Wading in the Creek Area at Mill Creek Lake
Although the lake only allows fishing and light boating (You can rent kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards at Mill Creek Lake)
Mill Creek Lake can be a fun spot to cool off if you just want to wade or play in the creek that feeds off of the lake.
A Popular Swimming Hole at Red River Gorge
If you prefer a swimming hole, a popular spot is Jump Rock located off of the Sheltowee Trace Suspension Bridge Trail. I would definitely recommend checking the depth below before you even consider making the jump.
Natural Bridge State Park KY
Located 10 minutes from Cliffview Resort, you will definitely want to check out this natural wonder while you are in the area. You can take a chair lift to Natural Bridge or hike the trail to the top.
Check out the Natural Bridge Hoedown dance
Trust me when I say that this is worth checking out! We took students to the Hoedown dance over 15 years ago and it’s still legendary.
There are bleachers if you want to spectate or rest for a bit but I promise it’s WAY more FUN if you let loose and actually join in…no matter what skill level of dancer you are.
Every Saturday evening from the beginning of May to October you can join in on the family-friendly fun with a variety of dances from square and line dancing along with clogging. If you don’t know the moves, don’t worry, the dance caller can help you out when it’s time to square dance.
Kids 12 and under are free and 13 and up are $3 pp. The warm-up dance is at 6:30 followed by the regular dance starting at 7:30.
