Tips for Attending The Ohio Renaissance Festival

The Ohio Renaissance Festival is an annual fall event in southern Ohio, 45 minutes from Cincinnati.

Festival guests are transported to a 40-acre recreated 16th-century English Village.

The festival offers 100+ daily performances, 17 stages, 166 unique arts and artisan shops, and 9 themed weekends.

The hardest part is narrowing down all of your options.

The Ohio Renaissance Festival is a fun adventure for Lords and Ladies of all ages.

I started bringing my boys when they were in elementary school and still enjoy the festival as adults.

I’m sharing more about what to expect at the Ohio Renaissance Festival, along with tips you need to know before you go.

When is The Ohio Renaissance Festival 2026?

The Ohio Renaissance Festival takes place on Weekends and Labor Day, September 5– November 1, 2026.

The Ohio Renaissance Festival hours are from 10:30 AM to 7 PM.

*The parking lot opens around 9:30 AM.

How to Save Money on Tickets to The Ohio Renaissance Festival

Kids 4 and under are FREE.

If you want to attend the festival on multiple weekends during the season, consider purchasing a season pass in advance. (They sell out quickly)

Military and first responders receive a $3 discount on admission AT THE TICKET BOOTH for Heroes and Young Adventures Weekend, the last weekend of the season.

Senior Citizens Get A Free Drink

Seniors can show their ID at the Information Booth to receive one free beverage. Seniors can enjoy a complimentary soda, tea, bottled water, or coffee.

Buy Before You Go – Limited Entry

The Ohio Ren Fest is reducing its daily capacity, so you’ll want to purchase tickets online in advance.

Purchase your tickets online in advance if you have a specific date in mind. Weekends can and do sell out.

Advance online tickets guarantee entry on a specific date.

Season Pass holders, Day Adult ticket holders, Child ticket holders, and Complimentary Pass holders will receive guaranteed admission.

The In-person ticket booth and online sales will close once capacity is reached. The front gates will remain open for pre-purchase ticket holders to enter.

What Time Should You Get to the Ohio Renaissance Festival?

I’d get there as early as possible to make the most of your experience. Sundays tend to have lighter crowds than Saturdays.

Take screenshots of your tickets because cell phone reception can be weak at the festival.

You can print your tickets at home and bring them to the festival or have your ticket screenshots available to scan.

Parking at the Ohio Renaissance Festival

The parking lot opens at 9:30, and the gate opens at 10:30.

Parking is free. A designated parking area for guests with special needs is available closer to the entrance.

Is the Ohio Renaissance Festival Accessible?

Most vendors have accessible ramps, and all bathroom locations have accessible stalls.

The pathways are gravel, and the uphill terrain can be more challenging while pushing a wheelchair or stroller. Mobility scooters are now available for rent.

Plan Your Day Around The Entertainment at The Ohio Renaissance Festival

The Ohio Renaissance Festival offers a variety of entertainment throughout the day.

Many popular acts offer multiple shows throughout the day, and show times may overlap with other acts. 

You can check out the entertainment ahead of time on an interactive map online. Paper maps are also available at the entrance when you arrive.

You can also download the app before arriving, add it to your home screen, and access the schedule and map offline.

The stages are pretty spread out on the festival grounds. I recommend allowing additional travel time to navigate past the crowds between shows.

It’s hard to pick a favorite show, but a few of the MUST SEE shows/ high-energy highlights, in my opinion, are:

• The Fully Armored Joust – real knights doing 3 jousting tournaments a day (be on the lookout for Queen Elizabeth)
• The Kamikaze Fireflies – one of our favorite shows with comedy skits and creative stunts
• Cincinnati Barbarians – picture MMA with real armor- it gets intense, but it’s fun to watch
• Wheel of Death-death-defying danger on the wheel

Younger kids will love cheering on their favorite knight during the joust and laughing at the Pirate Stunt show performed on a pirate ship stage.

The street magicians are also really fun to watch. The pickle vendor is hilarious if you catch his one-liners with the customers.

Several musical acts perform throughout the day. The couple with a bagpipe and drums are definitely worth checking out near the pub.

Arrive Early for a Good Seat for the Popular Shows

The fully armored joust show is worth arriving earlier for a good seat with a better view. We arrived 30 minutes early for front-row seats.

If you have smaller kids, you may want one person to hold a few seats while the other walks around before the joust starts.

Also arrive early for The Mudde Show if you want to sit closer to the stage.

If you’re sitting too far back, you’ll miss most of the context because your view can be obstructed, and it’s harder to hear.

If you want to be close to the action in the ring, arrive early for the Cincinnati Barbarians, too.

Most performers work for tips, so bring extra cash to support your favorite performers throughout the day.

Try the Ohio Renaissance Festival Food

One of the best parts of the Ohio Renaissance Festival is always trying all the delicious foods.

Popular festival foods are giant turkey legs, pretzels, pickles, bread bowls, and Dole Whip soft-serve ice cream.

Vendors offer plenty of hearty menu options to help fill you up.

 The bread bowls are really filling.  

You can’t go wrong with a pretzel or a large pickle for a snack, too.

To avoid long food lines, eat around noon before the first joust ends at 1pm.

What Should You Wear to the Ohio Renaissance Festival?

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Dressing up is a favorite part of the experience for many attendees. If you enjoy a theme, this is a great excuse.

In fact, the people-watching is spectacular!

You’ll discover so many elaborate costumes and creative characters at the festival.

If you don’t want to dress up, that’s totally fine too.

There are also plenty of vendors where you can purchase a few pieces while you are there. The elf ears are a popular accessory.

You can find lots of Renaissance-themed costumes available online, including elf ears.

On a HOT day, a portable fan can be a lifesaver too. It’s typically very HOT towards the beginning of the festival weekends.

You’ll find cooler temperatures from mid to late October.

Also, consider if it rained the day before because the grounds could be very muddy.

If you arrive at the beginning of the Ohio Renaissance Festival, dress in layers because it can get warm on a beautiful fall day. It can also get dusty, so plan your footwear accordingly.

Permanent and portable bathrooms are located throughout the festival. I highly suggest a permanent bathroom for anyone wearing a more elaborate costume.

Are There Things For Kids to Do at the Ohio Renaissance Festival?

You’ll find many children-centric vendors along Urchin Alley between the Revelers Stage and the Mudde Show.

The festival offers creative human-powered rides that “little lords and ladies” will enjoy, along with “games of skill” that challenge and appeal to all ages.
