My co worker and I added an adventure to our work trip by checking out one of the zip line tours at Zip Zone in Columbus, Ohio.
We chose the ” Zip Rush Tour” that takes you on two sky bridges, two zip lines and then you can try the QuickJump free fall experience or you can rappel down the tree from the platform instead.
Zip Zone tours start at the shelter where you sign waivers and get your harness and gear.
Your guides do all of the work with the braking system so you don’t have to worry about trying to stop yourself as you reach the other side of the zip line. They are also really good at photo bombing.
We received instruction of how to sit in the harness and what to expect during our tour. We went over all of the safety instructions. During your tour, you are always connected to a safety line, which makes your tour extremely safe.
The zip tour begins on the two sky bridges, followed by two consecutive zips before you take the plunge off of the platform.
I’ve been zip lining several times before and I think the best advice I can give is to just trust the equipment.
When you trust the equipment, you can enjoy and appreciate the experience.
My co worker was a little nervous about the experience. Can you tell?
The bungee jump portion was the intimidating part of the tour. Zip Zone is the first tour company in Ohio to offer the QuickJump experience.
Our group watched one of our guides demonstrate how it worked. You basically are harnessed in a do a short free fall before the system slowly brakes you to the ground.
Each person individually walked up to the red tape marked on the platform and had to face their fears as they looked over the edge.
It’s a totally different experience when it’s your turn to look over the edge. Which is why this tour can take 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
My strategy was to count to 3 and then jump off. A few others in our group made it down fine before me and I knew that the longer you over think the obstacle, the harder it can become in your mind. I just needed 3 seconds of bravery and it would be over soon.
Half way down I realized that the jump wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be. The perspective watching people jump from the ground was a totally different experience.
There were a few people who opted to rappel down the tree from the platform instead. Our guides were extremely encouraging to help make sure that everyone on the tour had a great experience and that they were comfortable with their decision about whether or not they wanted to jump.
My coworker and I had a great time at Zip Zone. Our guides Kylie and Teal did a great job of making everyone in the group feel comfortable and created a fun atmosphere.
The Zip Rush Tour is $45 per person – regularly scheduled Zip Rush Tours are offered FRIDAY-MONDAY
